The WHL Chairman of the Board Bruce Hamilton announced today that the WHL Board of Governors have agreed to a new five year contract extension with WHL Commissioner Ron Robison.
Robison, who joined the WHL prior to the 2000-01 season, is currently in his 11th year as Commissioner and CEO of the WHL. The new contact will extend Robison through the 2015-16 season.
“The WHL Governors voted unanimously to extend Ron Robison’s contract,” commented WHL Chairman of the Board Bruce Hamilton. “We are extremely pleased with the job Ron has done since joining the WHL and wanted to reward him with a longer term contract. As we move forward over the next five year period, Ron’s endeavors will be important as the WHL continues to be a Worldwide leader in the hockey industry.”
Under Robison’s leadership over the past decade, the WHL has experienced unprecedented growth. The WHL, with 22 member franchises throughout Western Canada and the U.S. Pacific Northwest, is a leading supplier to the NHL, Canada’s National hockey teams and the Canada West University Men’s Hockey programs. The WHL has also expanded its broadcast and internet platforms which has provided more exposure for the League and its Member Clubs than ever before.
“I consider it an honour and privilege to be in position to continue serving as WHL Commissioner,” stated Ron Robison. “The WHL has great potential for continued growth in the future and I look forward to continue playing a key leadership role in the seasons ahead.”
