The
Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today that import receiver Chaz Schilens and
import running back Jermaine Thomas have signed with the team. As per club
policy financial details of the contracts were not released.
Schilens (6’4 – 215) is a veteran of six NFL
seasons after originally being selected by the Oakland Raiders in the seventh
round (226th overall) in the 2008 Draft. The 28-year-old spent four
years with the Raiders before joining the New York Jets for the 2012 season and
spending time with the Detroit Lions in 2013. In 59 career games he totaled 100
catches for 1,191 yards and nine touchdowns.
Before joining the NFL, Schilens played four
seasons at San Diego State University where he registered 103 career collegiate
receptions for 1,603 yards and seven touchdowns.
Thomas (5’11 – 196) joins the Riders after
spending four seasons at Florida State University. The 24-year-old finished his
collegiate career ranked ninth all-time in FSU rushing touchdowns with 19 and
twelfth all-time in rushing yards with 2,083. The Jacksonville, Florida native
also registered six career 100-yard rushing games including a 186-yard game in
2009.
