– On Ice Management Group Inc. is bringing Regina’s first-ever international soccer friendly to new Mosaic Stadium on Saturday, July 22, 2017, when the New York Cosmos will host Valencia CF.

“It is great to bring this international event to Regina,” said John Graham, President of On Ice, who has been staging NHL exhibition games in Saskatchewan over the past 10 years. “When our partner Mark Taylor of PSC Limited reached out to us regarding the opportunity to stage an international match, our first calls were to the Government of Saskatchewan and the City of Regina because we knew the new world-class stadium would be the perfect location for this exciting event.”

City of Regina Mayor Michael Fougere and Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport Hon. Ken Cheveldayoff were on hand at Tuesday’s announcement and look forward to seeing international soccer come to the province.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have this event coming to Regina,” said Mayor Fougere. “This is further confirmation that our iconic new stadium is a world-class venue. This is just one example of the myriad of ways this multi-purpose facility will be put to good use in the decades to come.”

“On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, I would like to congratulate John Graham and On Ice Management Inc. on their work to bring an event of this magnitude to the City of Regina and to our province,” said Minister Cheveldayoff. “When the plans for the new stadium were being developed, we wanted a facility that was world-class and multi-sport; new Mosaic Stadium offers that, as this match between Valencia CF and the New York Cosmos proves. I am looking forward to a successful event, and the opportunity to showcase this beautiful, new facility.”

Regina has a growing community of soccer fans, and the popularity of the sport continues to rise. Both international teams are looking forward to visiting the Queen City and entertaining fans in the new stadium.
"It's a great privilege to play in the first soccer match in beautiful new Mosaic Stadium,” said Erik Stover, NY Cosmos COO. “It's a world-class venue and we're looking forward to the challenge of playing a world-class club like Valencia CF.”
Valencia CF Marketing Director DamiĆ  Vidagany shares the enthusiasm about the upcoming event.

“All at Valencia CF are eagerly looking forward to our game against the New York Cosmos on Saturday, July 22,” Vidagany said. “This will be the club’s first visit to Canada, and we take great pride in being invited to play in the first major football game at the new Mosaic Stadium.”

New stadium field selfishly foolishly tailored to one entity (Roughriders). Not up to world class International Soccer standards calling into question the validity of this announced event.
