Saskatchewan Roughrider quarterback Darian Durant has been named the CFL’s Gibson’s Finest Offensive Player of the Week, while receiver Andy Fantuz has been named the CFL’s Gibson’s Finest Canadian Player of the Week.
Durant had an incredible opening day to the season as he helped lead the Riders to a 54-51 overtime victory over the visiting Montreal Alouettes. Durant completed 30 of 44 passes for 478 yards and five touchdowns. He also had five carries for 52 yards and a touchdown.
Fantuz finished his day with eight receptions for 77 yards and two touchdowns. His touchdown reception with one minute left in the game helped send the game to overtime.
In addition to Durant and Fantuz, Rider receiver Rob Bagg was selected as the runner-up for the Gibson’s Finest Canadian Player of the Week. Bagg finished the game with four catches for 121 yards and a touchdown.
This marks the first week of a full season of Gibson’s Finest Player awards which will be handed out on a weekly and monthly basis through the end of November.
