Jose Bautista has become the first major leaguer to hit 50 homers in a season since Prince Fielder and Alex Rodriguez did it in 2007. Bautista hit number 50 this afternoon in a game versus Seattle.

I'm not to excited about it. When George Bell hit his 47 that year he had a pile of RBI's. The Blue Jays that year were in contention right to then end so every hit, hr, rbi counted.
This team has been out of it most of the season. Hitting a HR when you're 7 games back in August heat in Texas with Mosquitos buzzing around your face down by 6 runs is an accomplishment. However it's not quite Ivy League if you catch my drift.
Go look at the Roster of the '87 Jays. Look at all that talent that was gelling. They flipped a lot of those assets to bring in Alomar and Windfield later on. They had the Pitching Depth, and the right Coaching staff. It really is hard to believe how great they were as a franchise, and how crappy they became.
I do hold out hope they can rise again. Philadelphia was garbage for a couple decades, and so was Cincinnatti. I think the key is to get private ownership and not corporate ownership. You're not as shackled when it comes to making moves.
Well, when Bautista only had 59 home runs in 500 and some odd Major league games coming into this season and then hits 50 this season, I'm pretty excited. As well the direction this ball club is headed... I'm very excited for Blue Jays baseball going forward! FINALLY!!! GO Jays!
Bautista had a good year, but he has a .194 Batting Average with runners in scoring position. That is not even close to good enough from a guy in his spot. Getting them in is how you define clutch. He works on improving that we'll talk about him in the category of Mike Schmidt. He doesn't then he can hit dingers and be talked about like Mickey Tettleton or Dave Kingman as that's where I have him pegged currently. Still it's production and they need it, so I'll take it.
The Blue Jays must build their pitching staff particularly their late innings bullpen. They don't have the team to attract any top flight free agents anymore, and Rogers is to cheap to shell out for them anyway. Right now the easiest and cheapest way for them to compete while the young guys develop is to get a quality bullpen together. If they don't do that then they can settle for being a new 1990's version of the Texas Rangers. Lots of dingers, but lose games 9-8.
If they are looking for a Manager the guy at the top of the list to push this team is LA Dodgers Third Base Coach Larry Bowa. Larry Bowa I believe has learned a lot working on Joe Torre's staff, and probably isn't as combustable as he was in San Diego and Philadelphia. He can temper it better now. He would light a fire under Vernon Wells that's for sure, and get these guys moving towards at least some type of wild card spot. They dont' have the team to take the division.

Right Obama,
I forgot you hit 60 HR's last year in beer ball...
