Canadian hockey player Mandi Schwartz is scheduled to receive a stem cell transplant after learning that her cancer is in remission.
The 22-year-old Regina native received the news Tuesday from doctors, according to a release from Yale University. Schwartz is a senior at the school and played centre on the women's hockey team.
It's the third time she's gone into remission since being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in December 2008. She will receive the stem cell transplant -- essentially, a new blood and immune system -- as soon as possible.
"We are relieved to hear that Mandi is back in remission," her father Rick Schwartz said in a release. "The support we have received during this difficult time has been inspiring. We thank everyone who has kept Mandi in their thoughts and prayers."
Schwartz was originally scheduled to have a stem cell transplant on Aug. 26, but that was delayed when it was discovered the cancer had returned. She then went through another round of chemotherapy at a Seattle hospital.

Firs of all I have the utmost respect for Mitchell Blair. His blog is great, Rod and Mitch sound great together.
I have a problem with Mitch telling Durant that people are calling for Dinwiddie to start. Mitch should know better it's not the majority at all. Perhaps he's desperate for a story, but I lost respect for him after that one. I can't stand riderfans.com, Mitch says he can't but it appears he's taking what a few crazies say over there as fact.
