The Ricky Foley Saga

So let me get this straight. On Monday night, the BC Lions announce they have signed free agent defensive end Ricky Foley. On Tuesday, the Toronto Argonauts they have signed Ricky Foley. ?????! Is this another Scott Flory situation. No, its exactly what I was afraid of. Perhaps its the conspiracy theorist in me speaking, but this is why David Braley shouldn't own two teams. Did he have something to do with this? Did he decide Foley would be better off in Toronto as the Argos battle for first in the East and make a "decision" as to what team Foley should go to. I don't like the optics of this move. Will Commissioner Cohon say Foley goes to the Lions because that is where he signed first? He should! Perhaps Braley is innocent, but I can't give him the benefit of the doubt. If Foley had gone to any other team except Toronto, I would say OK. If Braley didn't own the Argos, I would say OK. The fact the Lions aren't crying foul just makes me very, very suspicious. What are your thoughts?

Don't be surprised to see Prechae Rodriguez end up back in Hamilton.

Do you think we will ever see Dominique Dorsey in Rider green again?

An item I missed on Monday night. Is it just me or is Ray Lewis getting better. The Baltimore linebacker was all over the field in the win over the Jets and he just plastered New York tight end Dustin Keller near the end of the game.

Will the Blue Jays finish at or above 500?

Michael Cole's shtick when he gets an e-mail from the WWE general manager is getting beyond sickening. Then again, it is Michael Cole and he and the word sickening do go hand-in-hand.

Access 7 has a new sports show (sort of). What used to be SportsZone is now known as Locker Talk. Pete Paczko and this blogger will keep bringing you the athletes that make this town one of the best sports towns in Canada. There are many people and organizations in Regina that deserve their 15 minutes of fame and Pete and I will keep bringing those people into the living rooms of Access subscribers.

The New York Jets released running back Danny Woodhead. Is he still Rider property?

The Big Bang Theory is on every night at 10 on CTV. That's a good thing!

Just one more sleep until the SJHL season starts. GULP! The season opener is in Melville Thursday night and Access 7 will have the game province-wide starting at 730.

For the first time since I started doing this blog, I reached and surpassed the 1-thousand visit mark in one day. Thanks to all!

I don't have an issue with Braley owning 2 teams. If he didn't do that it's concievable the CFL could have folded. It does raise a lot of eyebrows when that situation with Foley happened.

Based on Braley's reputation of getting out of the way and letting his Managers manage I'll give it a pass. He has a reputation with his real Auto Parts business of doing that. He provides the resources, sets the goals, and then evaluates after a time period. With these two CFL teams I believe he does that too. Quality Football Men like Wally Buono and Jim Barker would never allow themselves to be orchestrated as puppets. Do you remember when Lonnie Glieberman insisted Dexter Manley play? An Assistant Coach with that team by the name of Jim Daley quit on general principal. I would believe then like now a CFL Assistant is probably living paycheque to paycheque, but to quit like that showed something. I can't see guys with padded bank accounts like Buono and Barker putting up with that.

You do make a valid point though. I'm just looking at Braley's track record. He owned Hamilton, BC, and Toronto when nobody wanted these franchises. He brought in Bob Young, and I believe his heart is in the right place with the CFL.

Regarding Ricky Foley, I could not agree with you more. I think there is something fishy here.

As far as the Blue Jays go, I have lost all interest in them because I can't watch them anymore. I don't know if I blame Access or Rogers, but they have really angered me with their lack of Jays coverage down the stretch.

Your blog and Rod's are the first things I go to each morning. Keep up the good work.

The only thing fishy about Foley is the CFL's apparent lack of rule enforcement when it comes to contract signings. If he signed with BC, then he signed with BC. It's very much like Flory. I'm a conspiracy theorist too, but I don't think it exists here.

What would Rider fans think if Rodriguez surfaced in Edmonton and tore up the league?

Ray Lewis - You know what they say about guys that get better with age? PEDs.

Note sure if you're still confused about the last play of the Sunday Night game between Dallas and Washington.

While in the CFL, you are correct, the game cannot end on a penalty.

The NFL actually has enough common sense to state the game cannot end on a defensive penalty.

Why should you punish the Washington Redskins by making them play another down, when Dallas couldn't score the first time around. While you may say, "but they did score", they weren't able to do it legally. (Holding Penalty)

Without the hold, one could argue the Washinton player would have sacked Romo anyway, and thus game over.

Either way, it's all about Common Sense which the NFL has a lot more than the CFL. (Albeit, the Calvin Johnson incompletion was harsh, but also called by the book)

I am always amazed by the NFL fans who have bought into the hype that the NFL is a much superior league than the CFL. The game is usually boring or perhaps you like touchbacks. WOW the excitement or maybe the faircatch. WOW the excitement. Will it never end? Wait a minute maybe they love the excitement of the overtime game. No that can't be it as the winner of the coin toss usually wins the game. So what is it? Its marketing folks.Pure and simple. Take a boring defensive game and market the hell out of it.Suddenly it is the best there is. Doesn't the NFL Champs consider themselves to be WORLD CHAMPS???LOL
"So regarding the comment that the NFL takes a more common sense approach and say the game cannot end on a defensive penalty I say BALONIE. It was an offensive penalty for holding not a defensive penalty. So the game cannot end on an offensive penalty or is it a defensive penalty? Were is common sense when you need it?

Hey Mitch. Remenda is starting to rub off on Nye. I used to like him, but he is just getting more and more nauseating. How did you stomach working with that guy?
