Women’s Soccer – The U of R’s soccer team opens up its Canada West schedule at home this weekend. In town to face the Cougars are Fraser Valley (Saturday) and Victoria (Sunday). Both games will kick off at high noon at the U of R Field. This will be one of just three home weekends for the Cougars, as the team’s only other home matches of the conference season will be on Oct. 2/3 and Oct. 16/17.

Men’s Hockey – The Cougars will play in their first two non-conference games at the new Co-Operators Centre this weekend. The U of R will square off with the Portage College Voyageurs on Friday night, then will take on the University of Manitoba on Saturday night. Both games will face off at 7 p.m. The team’s first Canada West games of the 2010-11 campaign will be at home on Oct. 1 and Oct. 2 against Saskatchewan.

Rams Football (CIS Ranking: No. 9) – The Rams (1-0) were unceremonious hosts in their season opener on Friday, using an impressive showing from their defence to score a 45-11 win over the Manitoba Bisons. Steve Famulak was the leader for the defence, as the third-year dimeback was named the Canada West Defensive Player of the Week after leading the team in sacks (2½), tying for the team lead with 5½ tackles, and forcing a fumble that was turned into six points by linebacker Bruce Anderson. The Rams are back in action on the road this Friday against the No. 5-ranked Calgary Dinos (0-1). Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
