Brett Who?

It was debated from every different angle, but in the end, Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy and GM Ted Thompson did the right thing. They had the tough task of telling Brett Favre it was time to go. They could see it was Aaron Rodgers' time. McCarthy and Thompson were crucified for the move, but who's laughing now. The Packers are back on top of the NFL.

As the Steelers took the ball down by six with a few minutes left on the clock, I had this eerie thought of my prediction (stated in last post) coming true and that Ben Roethlisberger would work some magic one more time. It wasn't to be as Green Bay beat the Steelers 31-25.

Just some thoughts on the Packers win and the overall day

--Memo to self. When going out on Super Bowl Sunday, make sure I am going some place where Access is the cable subscriber so I can see the American ads. I screwed that up big-time. I got stuck being at a place where Bell was the subscriber and those at Bell did not want to have American ads running. BOOOOOO!!!. Bottom line though was I enjoyed the game, had some eats and drank some brewskies with some good friends while debating the issues so it was good---but still.

--When did the Super Bowl become American propaganda? Some of the things FOX does are outstanding, but I thought they went a little over the top yesterday.

--Sam Elliott's intros of the two teams was fantastic. How can you not love that guy's whiskey voice.

--I failed to notice the Christina Aguilera screw-up.

--If Bill Leavy would have been the ref for Super Bowl 45, I would have walked out knowing the game was in Pittsburgh's hands much like it was five years ago in Detroit. (The scar isn't disappearing).

--The game symbolized the Packers season. Dealing with big-time injuries and succeeding. This is a team that lost the likes of Ryan Grant, Jermichael Finley and Nick Barnett during the regular season for the year and they lost guys like Donald Driver and Charles Woodson during the Super Bowl. They didn't make excuses and they found a way to get it done-----much like a certain football team did under Ken Miller in 2008 when injury after injury after injury happened.

--Nothing against Curt Menefee, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Mike Strahan and Jimmy Johnson, but FOX should have rolled the dice and given us some "Animation Domination". Imagine a roundtable of Homer Simpson, Peter Griffin, Stewie Griffin, and Stan Smith breaking down the Super Bowl. They even could have had an interview with Ben Roethlisberger done by Glen Quagmire. GIGGITY!!! Think about it!!

--I can't express how much the half-time show sucked. As one person said in the place I was at as he yelled on screen at Fergie "Either get naked or stop singing". I couldn't disagree.

--Biggest play of the game was the 3rd down completion from Aaron Rodgers to Greg Jennings on the drive that led to the Packers final field goal. Yes, the Mendenhall fumble at the start of the 4th was big, but it wasn't the final nail in the coffin. The Jennings catch turned out to be.

--What type of numbers would Rodgers have had if his receivers hung on to the football?

--Did James Harrison or Troy Polamulu have their names mentioned? Harrison sacked Rodgers once and Polamulu crushed Jennings at the goal-line on one of his TD catches, but that was it.

--How much consideration did Jordy Nelson get for MVP?

--I wonder if Brett Favre texted his congratulations to Rodgers or the Packers. If he was a good man, he would.

Congrats to Braeden Moskowy and his Regina rink. What an ending to the Canadian junior mens final. He won it on a measurement in the extra end meaning its a Saskatchewan sweep at the Juniors.

Pat Simmons is heading back to the Brier. No pressure on you Pat. Saskatchewan hasn't won the Brier in how long and if you win this year, you get to curl in the Worlds at the Brandt Centre. No pressure whatsoever.

One other thing. Peter Forsberg is ready to resume his career in the NHL. The one question I have is this "Is Forsberg Swedish for Favre?"
