Saskatchewan Roughrider linebacker Jerrell Freeman has been selected as the West Nominee for the 2011 Most Outstanding Defensive Player award.
Freeman just completed his third season with the Riders and finished the regular season with a league leading 105 defensive tackles. In addition the 25-year-old tallied a team leading six quarterback sacks, four forced fumbles, three interceptions, two tackles for a loss, two pass knockdowns and one fumble recovery. Throughout the season Freeman was a dominant force on the Rider defence and his efforts were recognized by being named both Defensive Player of the Month and Defensive Player of the Week once this season.
The East and West Player Award winners were selected by a group of 70 voters which includes members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) and CFL head coaches.
The winners will be announced at the 2011 Gibson’s Finest CFL Player Awards show during Grey Cup week on Thursday, November 24 at the Vancouver Convention Centre in Vancouver.

Seven out of eight teams are represented. I can hear the "nobody respects us" out of Calgary already.
Great news for Freeman! Unfortunately, I think he will be NFL bound next season unless the Riders make him a huge offer. The big money will go to Freeman or Fantuz. I would spend it on Freeman. Impact players are hard to find.
My picks: MOP Calvillo
CANADIAN Messam
DEFENSIVE Freeman
LINEMAN Olafioye
ROOKIE Williams
SPECIAL TEAMS McCallum
Good luck in the NFL next near Freeman ! Just like Chick (2009 CFL Def Player of Year), we will never see you in a Rider uniform again. Thanks for the memories .
