Comeback For The Ages

They will talk about this one for a while. The Regina Pats trailed the Brandon Wheat Kings 3-0 after two periods of play and the Wheaties made it 4-0 just seconds into the 3rd. Who's kidding who, I and many others might have said that's it and head home to catch the back half of the HNIC doubleheader. Those that stayed and those that were in attendance won't soon forget what they saw. After Pats coach Pat Conacher pulled his goalie subbing Adam Beukeboom in for the struggling Matt Hewitt, Lane Scheidl scored at 3:27. That prompted Pats colour man Jared Dumba to say all the Pats needed was one to open up the floodgates. Luke Fenske scored at 4:45 and you could sense something might be happening. Chandler Stephenson scored at 8:46 to cut the deficit to one and at 10:06, it was Dyson Stevenson tying the game sending Phil "The Thrill" Andrews into a state of euphoria. Seconds later, Chandler Stephenson scored his 2nd to give Regina the 5-4 lead and he completed the hat-trick and the comeback with an empty netter to give the home side an improbable 6-4 victory. Games like that don't happen every night. I'm guessing Kelly McCrimmon will have had a message for two for his troops on what suddenly became a long bus ride back to Brandon.
The win moves Regina into a 6th place tie with a Saskatoon team on the road because of the Brier so its a huge two points as they look to crawl as high as they can in that tight Eastern Conference. I'm guessing you'll be hard-pressed to find a game like that at the Brandt Centre again for a long time. It might be the biggest comeback by the home side since the Agridome/Brandt Centre came into existence.
The P-A Raiders are on Brandt Centre ice Sunday night in a 6 o'clock start. Either the euphoria wears off and the Pats struggle against the East's lowest ranked team or the momentum carries through and they curb-stomp the Raiders. Doing the latter would be the best thing since this team does not play well against the bottom-feeders.
----
As mentioned, I listened to Phil "The Thrill" while driving home from the U of R where unlike the Brandt Centre, many went home disappointed. The Cougar womens basketball team looked nothing like the team that had gone through this season unbeaten. They just didn't seem to have it on this night while UBC did and while Regina came back to cut the deficit to three at one point, they fell to the T-Birds 79-58 meaning UBC is the Canada West champion and that Dave Taylor's girls have some work to do before qualifying for the nationals in Calgary. The ladies will have to earn their way there by winning the regionals in Saskatoon. They will be up against Concordia, Brock and the U of S.
------
Scott Manners is unbeaten at the Brier! Team Saskatchewan opened up the Saskatoon event with a win over Prince Edward Island. I said Manners would be successful if he won four games. The rookie skip is 25 percent to that goal. He plays BC Sunday afternoon.

Randy Carlyle won his first game as Leafs coach. Is the parade back on?

Why do I think Brian Burke and Don Cherry won't be conversing with one another anytime soon. Cherry certainly let Burke have it on Coach's Corner Saturday night. It is inexcusable though that the Leafs don't have any Ontario-born players on their team---especially when Burke uses that as an excuse for his team's play saying Ontario born guys get really pumped up when they play in T-O. I don't know what Burkie puts in his morning coffee, but I would really like some of it.

The Toronto Sun's Steve Simmons says there was a story this week in the Los Angeles Times featuring the home of Texas Rangers 3rd baseman Adrian Beltre and that the home has 18 bathrooms in it. 18?? What the hell does anyone need and do with 18 bathrooms? A home with three bathrooms in it is a tad extravagant if you ask me. 18???

As I type this, Telemiracle is on and Bob McGrath is on stage. How old is Bob McGrath? Does he just live in a crypt deep down in the basement of CTV Regina and they let him out for this weekend? If I'm not mistaken, I think he was here for the first one over 25 years ago. Maybe the Undertaker (WWE) should challenge McGrath seeing both are so ancient. In all seriousness though, it is amazing that he keeps coming back year after year after year. It shows how much he loves Telemiracle and the people of this province. RING THOSE PHONES!!!!!!!

For someone who was supposed to save the Leafs and make them relevant again, he has completely destroyed their and his credibility. MLSE needs to show him the door as well.

A very unhappy Leafs fan

Never have a junior game on Saturday night against HNIC. Cherry was fantastic last night too.

The Pats game was simply amazing. To see that team score six goals in 18 minutes was something I thought I'd never see. Any team scoring six in a period the way the game is played these days is an anomaly. While the win is great, Conacher should be concerned about Hewitt. That is two less than stellar outings and now is not the time for Hewitt to turn into a Linden Rowat and lose it before playoffs. I would give Beukeboom the start tonight.

What does someone do with 18 bathrooms and how old is Bob McGrath? Two questions that answers are needed to

And what night would be the best to have a hockey game to suit your needs anonymous? The WHL and SJHL have to play a majority of their games on weekends because of education. Same for University.

Would you like them to play Tuesdays at 3? How about Thursday morning games? Does that suit you better?

I agree wholeheartedly with the commenter about Hewitt.
