Adding QB's To The Roster

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today they have signed import quarterbacks Cole Bergquist and Kent Smith to contracts. Financial details of the signings were not released.

Bergquist (6’2 – 205 lbs) spent majority of last season on the practice roster for the Green and White after signing as a free agent on July, 2009. The 24-year old played four seasons at Montana where he completed 226 of 372 pass attempts for 3,165 yards and 28 touchdowns in his senior season. He started every game in his final two seasons and received all-Conference honours in his last two years. Bergquist finished his college career with 601 completions for 7,514 yards and 58 touchdowns.

Smith (6’5 – 215 lbs) was a two-year starter at Central Michigan where he finished his college career either holding or sharing eight school records for passing and total offense. He completed a school-record 255 passes for 2,799 yards and 16 touchdowns and ran for 433 yards and seven scores in 2005. Smith is the only CMU quarterback to pass for 300 yards and run for 100 (356 passing, 122 rushing) in the same game and is just the third Chippewa signal-caller to throw for at least 2,000 yards in consecutive seasons. In 2006, Smith was one of 20 quarterbacks to get invited to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. The left-handed quarterback went on to spend time with the Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans of the NFL, and spent last season with the Peoria Pirates of the AFL2.

I thought Bergquist was already signed! So much for the KJ back to Regina rumours.
