Riders Add Two On Defence

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today they have signed import linebacker Jim Maxwell and import defensive tackle Vaalyn Jackson to contracts. Financial details of the signings were not released.

Maxwell (6’4 – 230 lbs) played four years at Gardner-Webb and finished his collegiate career with 306 tackles, 11 fumble recoveries, ten quarterback sacks, eight forced fumbles and four interceptions. The 28-year year went on to sign with the New York Giants in 2004 where he made his NFL debut in September. Maxwell then went on to play with the San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins and the Cincinnati Bengals where he spent the last three seasons. During his time in the NFL, Maxwell played in 38 regular season games and registered 39 tackles and one sack.

Jackson (5’11- 285 lbs) dressed in 32 games during his four seasons at McNeese State where he started 11 games in his senior season on the defensive line. He finished his college career with 78 total tackles, 20 tackles for a loss and seven quarterback sacks. The 24-year old was named to the All-Southland Conference Football First Team in each of his last two seasons.
