A Whole Lotta This, A Whole Lotta That

I've got some thoughts rattling around the old cage, so with no rhyme or reason as to the order of what follows, here we go.

--Keith Tkachuk announced his retirement after 18 years in the NHL. His retirement means there are four former Winnipeg Jets still in the NHL. Can you name them? The answers are later in this posting

--The Oilers beat the Avalanche Wednesday night. Is it just me or have they been playing some decent hockey over the last month. It only asks the question where that was for most of the season?

--If you are an Oiler fan, do you want Taylor Hall or Tyler Seguin? Some have openly wondered if Edmonton could somehow pry the number two pick from Boston so they could get both. What would that cost them? If I'm the Bruins, I'm asking for that Eberle kid. I hear he's good.

--I've never seen the guy play, but Prince George Cougar Brett Connolly must be a pretty good hockey player. He is ranked 3rd amongst North American skaters in the final rankings done by Central Scouting. He's been hurt all year so one has to ask if he's ranked that high, could he better than both Hall and Seguin. Connolly will play at the World Under 18's, so we'll see if he dominates that event.

--What NHL power right now has the best goaltending situation going into the playoffs? Fans of the Hawks and Capitals can't be secure with their netminding, Evgeni Nabokov has not been stellar since the Olympics ended and the same can be said for Roberto Luongo. Ryan Miller is likely the best guy right now so does that make the Sabres the favourite to win it all.

--With so many teams having a good shot at Lord Stanley's mug, it makes hockey playoff drafts that much better. There's no guarantee Sid or Ovie could be around after the first round so is it worth the risk of taking them. Then again, you won't find me taking Thornton, Heatley or any other Shark this year after being burned the last two.

--Who is the guy in the Vernon Wells uniform? Three homers in two games for the Toronto centerfielder! What's up with that?

--Have you seen the handlebar "stache" that Lyle Overbay has? Hulk Hogan would be proud.

--With the St. Louis Rams releasing quarterback Marc Bulger this week, does that mean we now know they are taking Oklahoma's Sam Bradford as the number one pick in the NFL draft.

--You are going to watch Tiger at the Masters aren't you? Admit it, you know you are because you want to know how he is going to play.

--Thank you Billy Payne for saying what everyone has been thinking!

--Seeing the SJHL final live on Access Communications makes me wonder if the Queen City could be home to a team in the Tier 2 loop. They could play home games at the Co-Operators Centre! Then again, would Regina hockey fans spend their money on both the Pats and the SJHL team.

--I can't see the CFL being hit with labour unrest, but its obvious there is going to have to be some give and take as is the case with every labour related situation. If the players want the salary cap to be raised and get more playoff money, then they should allow for their salaries to be made public. I think we deserve to know what players are making. We know what players in the NHL, NFL, MLB and the NBA are making so why not the CFL?

--Not that I'm a fan of either establishment, but when you see so many Harvey's and Taco Bell ads on TV, you have to wonder why neither of these places call Regina home.

--Why does Tim Horton's come up with one lame ad after another. Seriously, the guy that thinks he's come across a great new drink in "Cafe Mocha". CMON! STOOOOOOOO-PID!

--If you are a fan of "The Big Bang Theory", make sure you see this Monday's show. It will be a beaut as Wil Wheaton comes back to get under Sheldon's skin again.

--Why is it that every channel seems to have shows like Friends, Two and a Half Men, and Family Guy, but no channel shows "Night Court". I LOVED THAT SHOW! Like Al Bundy, Dan Fielding is a character you just can't duplicate.

--Is any network showing the NCAA Frozen Four this weekend? The US College Hockey Championship usually provides some great theatre.

--The four Winnipeg Jets still playing in the NHL are Nikolai Khabibulin, Shane Doan, Kris Draper and Teemu Selanne.

--As you go into your Thursday, I ask you this.

Do nylons give women a run for their money????

Were you sitting behind me at the Hub last night? I said the same thing about Overbay's "stache" to my brother-in-law.

No matter who Edmonton takes, they will get a proven player. This isn't like a Manning/Leaf situation.

Count me in as someone else who loved Night Court!!

The SJHL won't be coming back to Regina anytime soon. Trust me on that one!

Hey Mitch, I don't know why they got rid of them, but many, many years ago (about 10), KFC's used to have Taco Bell menus too.

Just go to Mondo Burrito if you are having a Mexican fix. Good food there my friend.

Mitchy,
Cougar Life ? I heard an ad for this on a satellite station and thought it was a bit by the jocks. Sometimes truth is starnger than fiction!

Your damn right we should know what CFL'ers get. There are some guys on our beloved Riders that I think are making way too much money for the contributions they give on the field. I think you could say that with every team. You put salaries in the paper at the end of the season, and you will have days of debate.

i think you mean taco del mar, because they sell a "Mondo burrito".

I knew 2 of the 4 remaining jets. Forgot about draper and the bulin wall.

Here is the real question when it comes to the SJHL on Access. From what I hear the production is brutal and the picture is analog at best. Why are they using a production truck out of Yorkton when they could easily bring up the Regina mobile and have a top notch Producer like Kevin Foote do it decently. As I hear it game 3 was not even on the air until 8 o'clock. Better yet, just listen to Craig Stein on GX94.
