The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today that they have signed import linebacker Daren Stone, import defensive lineman Mick Williams, non-import running back Nathan Riva and non-import wide receiver Bogdan Raic to contracts. Financial details were not released.
Stone (6’3 – 215) was originally drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the 6th round (203rd overall) in the 2007 NFL Draft and appeared in 12 games that season as a rookie. The University of Maine product also spent time with the 2008 Baltimore Ravens appearing in eight games registering four tackles and one pass knockdown. The Jamaican born linebacker appeared in eight regular season games last year with the Calgary Stampeders, finishing the 2011 season with 18 tackles and nine special teams tackles.
Williams (6’1 – 282) comes to the Roughriders after stints with the NFL’s Chicago Bears and New York Jets in 2010. The product of Monessen, PA played four seasons at the University of Pittsburgh, finishing his senior year with 42 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 10 QB hurries, five quarterback sacks and three forced fumbles while being named 2009 First-Team All-Big East and earning Big East Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Riva (5’11 – 195) spent the previous four seasons in the CIS with the University of Western Mustangs. Last year as a senior he carried the ball 92 times for 568 yards and nine touchdowns. As a junior in 2010 he saw action in just three games due to injury but managed to total 272 yards on just 50 carries. He set career highs in 2009 as a sophomore when carried the ball 98 times for 606 yards.
Raic (6’2 – 218) signed with the Riders after playing his collegiate career with the Ottawa Gee Gees in the CIS. Last year as a senior the Ottawa, ON native recorded 497 receiving yards on 25 receptions.
As Canadian undrafted players, Riva and Raic will not count against the 75 man training camp roster.
