The Saskatchewan Roughriders continue to make news one day after the hiring of Chris Jones as the new head coach, general manager and vice-president of football operations.
Sportscage Insider Arash Madani says Bob Dyce will not be returning after serving as interim head coach and going 3-6 after the dismissal of Corey Chamblin. Dyce has reportedly already cleaned out his office.
Madani also says Riders head of scouting Craig Smith is also being let go.
Madani also reports Craig Dickenson will be another assistant coming to Saskatchewan with Jones as he returns to Riderville to coach special teams.
Meantime, the Montreal Alouettes have announced the return of former Riders defensive co-ordinator Greg Quick

Is Jones using his own axe or did he steal one from Big Joe or whatever Ottawa's guy is called. The guy is taking no time in laying the law down.
I would take Dyce over Jones and Dickenson anyday. There is no comparison between Dyce and the others - Dyce a million times better
Often when you have a big mess, you need a big clean up. In just the last five years the Riders have finished as follows:
-under.500 three times
-missed playoffs twice
-won Grey Cup once
-knocked out in WSF twice
-never finished higher than 2nd in West
In reality outside of the Grey Cup year where we only finished 2nd in the West, we were very unremarkable to the point of mediocrity. The 2013 year was a big dollar free agent year. Our talent pool has steadily dwindled badly along with our Canadians. It was seriously time for us to set this ship in a new direction. Not saying any one of these terminations were the reason but it was time to clean up
Craig Reynolds has used the term sustained success a lot. Jones is a new broom who evidently feels the need the sweep clean to get to that point. Jones is the GM so I think the Jones/O'Day debate should be put to bed once and for all. While I personally think these moves are correct and warranted, one has to wonder if O'Day would have had the will to make the width and breadth of changes Jones is willing to. This is just the beginning because after the team of coaches is put together he will turn his attention to the roster and how best to put a quality product on the field within the cap. There are going to be some very unhappy people but the time for the shake up and changing of the guard is now and it's on.
Awesome news.
You love Jones now, but just wait. Has anyone thought the reason the Eskimos didn't want any compensation and there was no fight to match the offer because they didn't want the guy around anymore. Is that the reason he has such a short shelf-life everywhere. Wait and see Rider Nation, wait and see!
The Eskimos couldn't get any compensation. These guys have a professional advancement clause in their contracts. As long as the job is greater than the one they have, they cannot hold that person back. If they tried the contract could be voided for violation of agreement. The Riders could not have interviewed him for HC because that's not an advancement. Plus he would have never come here for that position. Edmonton couldn't match a $600K to $700K salary to a HC, and that's what combined roles HC/GM demand. Probably the same money Hufnagel, Buono, Popp and Austin were making. How would you describe the shelf life of Austin, Miller, Marshall, and Chamblin?? Commentary should be the result of knowledge and thoughtful reflection, not an excuse for lack of it.
Greed is one reason for leaving jobs, but so is character. I'm guessing there aren't a lot of tears being shed in Edmonton over this move. I think Rider fans will come to hating Chris Jones in a few months. You got what you wanted suckas!!!!
If Bob Dyce is available, Bob Dyce should go to the U of R. Do I have to say more?
There's a new sheriff in town,
Chris the name,
Chris Jones.
VP/GM/Head Coach/ Defensive Coordinator/
Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club.
Suck it up losers! Ain't nothing you can do to change the circumstances!
Wish Bobby could coach CIS football somewhere in western Canada
