Riders Unveil Front Office Structure While Releasing Many Players

Saskatchewan Roughriders vice president of football operations, general manager and head coach Chris Jones has announced his football operations staff.

Joining Jones in the front office will be assistant vice president of football operations and player personnel, John Murphy.

Murphy joins the Riders after spending eight seasons with the Calgary Stampeders, originally joining the team during their 2008 Grey Cup winning season. He joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as director of player personnel for the 2009 season before returning to the Stampeders where he spent the last five seasons as assistant general manager and director of player personnel.

Long serving Roughrider, Jeremy O’Day remains with the club after being named assistant vice president of football operations and administration.

O’Day originally joined the Riders front office in 2011 as a football operations coordinator after playing 202 regular season games through 12 seasons with the team. He has spent the last four seasons as assistant general manager and director of football operations. Last year, O’Day was named interim vice-president of football operations and general manager where he remained for the final nine games of the 2015 regular season.

Clearing out cap space to get some Calgary and Edmonton FA's?

The NEW Saskatchewan Roughriders have arrived!

Comment 1 is echoed by many! LOK!

No Getzlaf? Isn't he making 200 plus? He would have been number 2 or 3 on my list.

Riders wouldn't be the first team to do it, but finding out on social media like Brack has suggested is a slap in the face. If you are going to do it, do it in a more professional and classy manner. That is an insult as far as I am concerned.

Getzlaf next

Cutting these guys loose early, who weren't going to figure into their plans anyway, is doing them a big favour. It's giving them and their agents a jump on everyone else in shopping their services around the league.

They need to open up spaces on their roster. There are limits to training camp roster sizes, you know. And I'm pretty sure Jones and Murphy have their eyes on more than a couple of Esks and Stamps FA's, along with a healthy influx of recruits from upcoming free agent camps down south.

It's only going to get better, fasten your seatbelts!

I have no problems with this, but I have a big problem in the way they were let go with apparently no notification. That isn't right!

From your opening line on Friday......holy crap on a cracker!

I'm a little surprised Weldon was let go, but perhaps there is some history there between Jones and him. They get rid of the entire secondary, yet keep Woldu and TJack. I don't understand why the cuts wouldn't go deeper.

Getzlaf survived the first wave? How?

What on earth will the Riders do now that Macho Harris is gone.

At least we won't have to watch Brackenridge miss any more tackles.

A few of these Roughriders team cuts by the new regime were recently re-signed by the Interm gm and more on that list were on his radar for new contracts, no wonder...
