Three Pats Going to Hockey Canada Showcase

Hockey Canada announced today the 196-player roster for its National Teams’ Summer Showcase taking place July 26-August 6.  Three Regina Pats attend camps across three different age groups.  Leading the way is defenceman Connor Hobbs who takes part in Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Summer Development Camp.  Forward Jake Leschyshyn earned an invite to the Summer Under-18 Team selection camp in preparation for the 2016 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup.  Finally, prospect defenceman Dawson Barteaux takes part in the National Under-17 development camp on the path to the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Connor Hobbs completed his first full season with the Pats in 2015-16 and put together an impressive campaign.  The Washington Capitals draft pick was named the Pats Defenceman of the Year while compiling 41 points (19G, 22A) to go with 106 penalty minutes in 58 games.  Hobbs’ finished the season fifth among WHL defencemen in goals (19) and powerplay goals (10).  The Saskatoon, SK product was even more impressive in the playoffs as he posted 10 points (4G, 6A) in 12 games including two game winning goals.  Despite only playing 12 games, Hobbs finished fifth among defencemen for scoring in the playoffs.  Hobbs has previous international experience, suiting up for the World U17 Hockey Challenge and the U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup.

Jake Leschyshyn enjoyed a strong rookie season with the Pats in 2015-16.  He registered 16 points (7G, 9A) in 66 games.  During the season, Leschyshyn participated in the World U17 Hockey Challenge as a member of Team Canada Black.  He also added four points (1G, 3A) in 12 playoff games.  Despite entering just his second WHL season, the Grasswood, SK native already has 21 WHL Playoff games to his name.

Dawson Barteaux was the Pats’ first round pick (14th overall) in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.  The smooth-skating defenceman tallied 26 points (7G, 19A) in 37 games last season with the Yellowhead Chiefs in the Manitoba Midget-AAA Hockey League.  Barteaux also suited up for Team Manitoba at the 2015 Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup and played one game with the Pats as a call-up in December.
