Blogging On A Holiday Monday

Hows your Family Day weekend going so far? By the looks of the amount of traffic that was on the road Saturday and visiting east-end Regina businesses, it looked like many were stocking up until the May long weekend. Then again, maybe it won't be until that weekend when the weather starts to warm up. I'm beyond sick of this winter. It could leave yesterday as far as I'm concerned.

Another reason why I will be glad winter will be gone soon happened Saturday night. First off, let me say I have no problems living in this city that I have called home for most of my life, but there are some things about it that piss me off----like snow removal ( or lack of it) in residential areas. When a city grader goes down a street, why does it leave ruts in the road? Why doesn't it scrape it right down to the pavement? Saturday night, I had to move my vehicle out of the ruts because of an on-coming car, the car started to fishtail and the end result was the back end of my beast getting smacked to the point that I think SGI will be saying "That's all folks". If that happens, it will be the 3rd time since living here that lack of snow removal has caused my car to either be repaired or as the case may be in this one written off. I'll find out Wednesday, but I'm not optimistic.

On to better things and its been a great start for Amber Holland at the Scotties. She beat Manitona and Team Canada on the weekend to sit alone in first place at 2-0 going into this morning's draw. After the success of our juniors, it would be nice to see Amber keep the ball rolling, She can certainly play with the heavyweights like Jones, Kleibrink and Scott so lets keep our fingers crossed.

John Cena is in the main event at Wrestlemania. What a surprise!! All apologies to those who didn;t know what happened in the Elimination Chamber before reading this.

I have more excitement for the Pats-Hitmen outdoors game this afternoon than I had for last night's Flames-Habs game. Then again, I have no time for either of those NHL franchises so I could have cared less. In watching the game though, I still think Edmonton's Heritage Classic was better.
By the way, congrats to the Pats for somehow pulling it out to be the opposition for the Hitmen today. I would have thought Calgary would have played Edmonton, Vancouver or an Alberta rival in this game, but good for Brent Parker for somehow getting the league to get his team in there. I can only wonder what Dan Plaster's location will look like today. Is he up in the press box or is he down at field level? I couldn't see where the Flames and Habs radio people were set up. Could they have done the game upstairs with a monitor? If so, that's tough.

What is Carey Price's mask supposed to represent?
-----
A tweet from the Calgary Herald's Al Maki shortly after yesterday's game started. "I can't believe I'm at MacMahon Stadium watching a game---there is a lack of Rider fans here." That's true Al, but I'm sure they were there wearing Montreal or Calgary colours.

Good for Milos Raonic and his efforts in back to back weeks, but his game is not going to spark a surge in Canadian tennis. If he were to win a Grand Slam event, he might, but not now, Its like Mike Weir getting golf noticed when he won the Masters, but when he wins some other event on the Tour, its a footnote. Good on Rogers Sportsnet though for getting Raonic's finals appearance on yesterday.

I keep hearing rumours that the Riders are looking to trade Rob Bagg because of the emergence of Cary Koch. I'm not buying that. I don't think Darian Durant wants to lose two members of his starting receiving corps from last year. Nothing against Koch, who might have been the rookie of the year in the CFL, had he gotten a chance to play earlier, but you just can't give up a Canadian talent like Bagg unless you are getting a LOT in return.
-------
With the SJHL playoffs getting ready to begin, many different people have their idea as to who will be in the final. La Ronge and Yorkton seem to be the favourites and for good reason seeing both won their respective divisions. I don't know who will be in the final, but I will predict that one of the division leaders gets knocked off before the finals.
-------
I think I speak for many when I say weloome back Ubertwitter---or should I say Ubersocial now? That was an annoying 48 hours without you.

Enjoy your Monday and stay warm!!!

Can't speak for the mask Carey wore yesterday in the outdoor game but his mask for this season has Jake Barnes roping a steers horns on one side and Clay O'Brien Cooper roping the steers heals on the other side. Jake and Clay are 7-time world champions in Team Roping, that's a rodeo event Carey himself competes in during the summer months.
Last year his mask featured country music icons, George Strait and Garth Brooks.
I can't help but cheer for him because of the way he expresses his western roots.

Amber is lookin good, but its just the start of the week and we know things can go off the rails quickly.

Too bad about your car. I also am one that has had my car parked on the street and sideswiped by someone because of icy, rutty roads.

GO WEYBURN

The fact that you are shrugging Raonic's recent success kinda pisses me off. The dude is in just his second year on the WTP Tour. He made the Quarters at the Aussie Open a few weeks back, won an event and nearly beat Roddick in the Final of another. This is the biggest thing to happen in Canadian tennis...ever.

What an embarassment for the WHL to have two non-playoff teams in their outdoors game. Obviously Calgary has a reason for being there, but did someone in the WHL office have a brain-cramp and think Eberle was still in Regina? Medicine Hat or Saskatoon would have been a far better draw.

To the Ronic fan. Have you ever heard of Carling Bassett? how about Daniel Nestor? Ronic has a long ways to go, but he also has a long ways to go to get to where these people were at one time.

Carey Price mask was to honour Jacque Plante. Mike L

Cena? Its time for new blood. Hopefully the Miz will win (I doubt it though) and we can start seeing people like Morrison, Sheamus, etc. etc run with the ball.
Will we see Cole vs Lawler? I hope so!

I think the Riders would rather trade Koch than Bagg. American-Canadian type thing.

Have any of the rumours suggested McCallum is on his way back. That is what I'm hearing from people at work. If its true, does that mean Congi is done?

I'm with Ron. If anyone goes, I think it will be Koch and not Bagg.

Bingo Arms (Darren). That's being a little rude isn't it. Then considering the piece of pondscum you are, I shouldn't be surprised.

Who or what is a Bingo Arms?

If any Rider receiver were to leave, I would put my money on Bagg because he has been plagued by injury. We still have an awesome group of receivers and if Sisco comes on the way people think, it willl still be the best group of receivers in the league.
