Excitement Galore At The U of R

In my post yesterday, I told you that you should go out and watch the Cougar womens basketball team because they are great to watch and you get full entertainment for your dollar. If you were there last night, you know why. The Cougars and the Victoria Vikes hooked up in what was as Ed Whalen would call it "a ring-a-ding-dong dandy". The two teams went back and forth at one another with 21 lead changes before Regina finally prevailed by a score of 70-67 to take the series in two straight.

I'm guessing most, if not all of the province's curling community will be gathered around their TV to watch the Scotties final. Amber Holland will play Jennifer Jones for all the marbles, and I have to think Jones is favoured just because of her past experience at this event. That being said, Amber has had success against Jones and if she is up 5-2 this time like she was Friday, she won't lose. If you didn't see yesterday's game against Ontario, Holland was at the top of her game as she made some huge shots.

Can someone please explain to me why they are having a bronze medal game at the Scotties? Is this a TSN thing or is this a curling thing or what? I thought the loser of the semi-final was 3rd meaning Ontario this year because they lost to Team Saskatchewan, but no. Nova Scotia gets a chance to somehow come back and finish 3rd. Its a little redundant if you ask me.

Kudos to CTV Regina. Lee Jones tells me the station is sending Chris Hodges to Scotland for the World Junior Curling Championships which will have a distinct Saskatchewan flavour with both Trish Paulsen and Braeden Moskowy from Saskatoon and Regina representing Canada. Here's hoping Amber wins today so Lee or Chris can head to Denmark for the world womens championship. On a down note though, I was also told TSN may not be doing the finals of the juniors because it conflicts with the Brier. That sucks!

If Leader-Post sportswriters Rob Vanstone and Murray McCormick are on Twitter, then why isn't the esteemed Ian Hamilton.

Jon Fitch beat BJ Penn as far as I'm concerned last night.

Is there anyone that has done to their chest hair what UFC fighter Brian Ebersole did with his. If you watched last night's extravaganza from Australia, you know what I'm talking about. If you know me and you watched the event last night, you will also know that those last two guys that fought (Hunt and Tuchscherer) make me look like a fitness model. That was just gross to watch. The line by Joe Rogan in that fight though when Tuchscherer was cut was pure gold. Tuchscherer saying there is something in his eye to which Rogan replies ---yeah, its your eyelid. (Tuchscherer had suffered a nasty cut leaving the skin to droop into Tuchscherer's sight.)

This just in----baseball's pre-season is underway and the Kansas City Royals have been mathematically eliminated from pennant contention.

If the L-A Kings trade Brayden Schenn, they are nuts. Then again, one of the rumours I'm hearing is L-A wants Ales Hemsky from Edmonton which the Oil are willing to do if Schenn comes back. As an Oiler fan, cmon Dean Lombardi--pull the trigger on that deal. I'm not holding my breath.

If I was Tambellini I'd trade Hemsky for Schenn in a heartbeat. I'd even try to talk LA into taking Penner too.

Who knows it might happen. LA already has an alpha defenceman in Drew Doughty, and he's sure a keeper.

Bronze medal game is stupid. You are right, Ontario should be awarded 3rd.

As an Oiler fan, I would love to see a Hemsky-Schenn trade, but Lombardi isn't that dumb. Is he?

The final will come down to last rock tonight. Here's hoping we have it!!!

That was a great game at the U of R last night. It would be nice if more people showed up, but the U of R does its best to get them out. Regina doesn't know what they are missing.
