It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This

From a best of seven to a best of five to a best of three----and don't be surprised to see it come down to a one game winner take all next Tuesday. The SJHL final between the Yorkton Terriers and the La Ronge Ice Wolves has been everything it was advertised to be and better.

One night after a thrilling Game 3 La Ronge win in overtime, the two teams gave fans in Yorkton and across Saskatchewan on Access 7 another thriller with Yorkton prevailing this time in overtime by a score of 4-3 to send this baby back north even at two with Game 5 on Friday.

Once again, both teams delivered great pace to the contest with good scoring chances, good goaltending, good physical play, no cheap shots. It has been great hockey to watch and I know a lot of people in Yorkton, La Ronge and across Saskatchewan are watching and seeing how good the junior "A" brand is in this province----although I know a lot of people knew that already.

The only down side to this series going at least six is I won't be able to watch the final round of the Masters. SIGHHHHH!!!!  Somehow I think I'll survive.
-----
I guess I won't see the finals of the world mens curling championship either, but it would seem as if Jeff Stoughton is going to win. He has been head and shoulders the best rink at the event and goes into the final day of the round robin with a perfect record. Yeah, he can be beat, but I don't think he will.
-----
The Leafs are out of the playoffs and now the Flames are too. That's OK with me.
----
Corey Perry has 50 goals. Has he made a late run for the Hart Trophy?
-----
Memo to Rod Pedersen---they love you in Yorkton and a few want you to be here for Game 6. I told them you would be at the finals of the World Mens, but I'll save you and Jim a ticket if you want to make the trip.
-----
Remember Nick Charles---the former CNN sportscaster. He has also done a lot of championship boxing matches on pay per view. I did not know until I read this story that he is dying of cancer. Its a great read if you have a few minutes.
------
Congrats to Warriors forward Quinton Howden as he signs a contract with the Florida Panthers. I think he is going to be a star. I would love to have seen the Oilers take him on draft day last year but he was gone by the time Edmonton made their second selection behind Taylor Hall.
-----
I saw a story on CTV Newsnet yesterday where police somewhere in the US had to use pepper spray to subdue an 8 year old boy. I thought this was sort of ridiculous and they had the obligatory comments from Mom as to her disgust. We then learned that this 8 year old was saying he would kill anyone who dared come into his room and used the "f" word a few times along with some other colorful language. Mom must be real proud of her son and I'm guessing her parenting skills are top-notch as well.
-----
Speaking of colourful language, check out this story. I think Sask Tourism has gone a little too far here, but its just a reminder that you can't do anything these days without the possibility of it ending up in a place where you don't want it to be because of cellphone cameras and other devices.  I'm guessing there are shadows in many closets out there.
------
Time to leave Yorkton and get home to at least watch some of this year's Masters and perhaps play the Thursday round on the PS3.

Just read a sad article in the Globe and Mail whereby CFL players were given a study about low life expectancy at their association meeting in Vegas - in the 50 to 55 year old range.

Nice job in keeping things under control when the La Ronge guy dropped the f bomb on province-wide TV. HA HA!!

That series will go 7.

Access does a great job with the SJHL and they have been rewarded with two fantastic games. Hope the rest of the series is like Game 3 and 4.

I always wondered what happened to Nick Charles. He did sports on CNN with a guy that was on Detroit cable when we had it. I forget his name.
