The University of Regina Rams released their 2011 schedule on Thursday, with the team slated to kick off the Canada West season at home against UBC on Friday, Sept. 2 at Mosaic Stadium.
The home opener against UBC will mark the first time since the 2005 campaign that the Rams have played a team other than Manitoba in the first conference game of the season. The U of R has played UBC in its season opener just one time in its history, opening up against the Thunderbirds back in 2002.
The Rams also have home dates against three-time defending Canada West champion Calgary (Sept. 16), Manitoba (Sept. 30), and Saskatchewan (Oct. 22). The U of R visits Saskatchewan (Sept. 9), Alberta (Sept. 24), UBC (Oct. 15), and Manitoba (Oct. 29) in its four conference road games.
The Rams, who finished 5-3 last season and in third place in the Canada West standings, are expected to return five Canada West all-stars (Chris Bodnar, Adrian Charles, Akiem Hicks, Brenden Owens, and Jamir Walker) to their 2011 roster.
The Rams are also expected to finalize a date for a non-conference affair against Manitoba the weekend before the UBC opener.
