TiCats Hire Cortez

Hamilton Tiger-Cats caretaker Bob Young announced via his Twitter account today that George Cortez has been named the team's new head coach.

With already four Grey Cup championships to his name, Cortez returns to three-down football following a two-year stint as the quarterbacks coach with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills.

Prior to his time down south, Cortez spent 18 seasons with four different CFL teams, most recently with the Calgary Stampeders as their offensive coordinator from 2007-2009.

In 2008, Cortez teamed up with recently acquired Ticats quarterback Henry Burris to win the 96th Grey Cup. Burris went on to win the game's MVP honours, as the West Division Most Outstanding Player award.

“I am very, very excited to announce that George Cortez has been hired as the new head coach and director of football operations of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats,” said Young in a statement.

“We’re extremely confident that he will build us a championship-calibre program here in Hamilton,” he added.
