Pats Add Blueliner And Inch Closer To Playoff Spot

The Regina Pats have added another blueliner to their roster. The team announced during its game against Saskatoon on Friday night that they have picked up 18 year old defenceman Luke Fenske from the Vancouver Giants for a 3rd round pick in the 2013 bantam draft. Fenske has 6 points in 31 games for the Giants and gives Regina an 18 year old defenceman which is an area where they were thin. It also makes one wonder if the Pats may deal one of Art Bidlevskii, Brandon Davidson, Colton Jobke or Brandon Underwood seeing all four may be finishing off their junior hockey careers. Bidlevskii and Davidson are for sure as they are 20 while Jobke and Underwood are 19.

As for the on-ice product, it continues to sparkle. The team won their 4th in a row in front of just under 4-thousand fans who gave the team a standing ovation at the end of a 3-0 win. The Blades were all over Regina in the first period, but goalie Matt Hewitt stood tall stopping all 33 shots for the shutout. Regina goals came from Morgan Klimchuk, the suddenly offensive-minded Matt Marantz (4g in his last two games) and Jordan Weal with an empty netter in which arguably may have been his final home game as a Pat depending on what happens at the trade deadline. I really don't think the team can trade Weal now as they almost a certainty to make the playoffs with first place Moose Jaw realistically in their sights in the Eastern Division.
