I Can't Figure Out The Oil

My beloved Edmonton Oilers are confoozing me bigtime this year. As I've previously stated, I'm not expecting big things from the team this year because with the exception of Pat Quinn, its the same team that floundered so miserably last year.
The team has had its good stretches, and its had its bad. With a lot of regulars including Ales Hemsky out of the lineup and the team on a long road trip because of the Olympic curling trials, you would expect them to be rather charitable these days. WRONG! After beating Detroit and Dallas, the Oil walked into Miami and beat the Panthers 3-2 in a shootout. I still don't think Edmonton makes the playoffs this year, but they are keeping fans like me wondering if they are going to make a run or if they are going to be in the running for a top 10 pick.

Marty Brodeur is making the guy that keeps the NHL record-book do some more re-writes. The New Jersey goalie records shutout number 103 in his career tying him with the legendary Terry Sawchuk. You have to wonder just where Brodeur will be placed when it comes to all-time greatest goalies when he finally hangs up the mask.

Boo to the NFL for stifling creativity. The Blackhawks had a series of promotional ads featuring members of their team and members of the Bears. One of the segments would have been Bears quarterback Jay Cutler discussing passing with Jonathan Toews. Another would have seen Brent Seabrook talking about hitting with Lance Briggs. The problem is the NFL won't allow teams to present their logo when promoting other teams sports. What a ridiculous rule! I would love to see the Pats and Blades hook up with the Riders on something like this.

Its the announcement Regina hockey fans have been waiting for. Single game tickets for the World Juniors will be available on Saturday. This should ensure a sellout for the games featuring Team Canada. Tickets are 50 and 30 dollars.

Did I miss this or can you get tickets for the recently announced 2011 Mens World Curling Championships that will go in Regina? There is no doubt in my mind that event will pack the Brandt Centre. I almost forgot that the 2010 World Womens Curling championships will be decided in Swift Current. I'm sure it will be a rousing success as well with many of the rinks competing likely coming to Swift Current after finishing in Vancouver.

Congrats to Weyburn's Graham DeLaet. He has successfully gained his PGA Tour card for the 2010 season. DeLaet did that Monday as he finished tied for 8th at the final qualifying school event which was good enough to gain him employment on the PGA circuit. The guys on the Golf Channel really talked up DeLaet saying he should make quite an impression on the Tour this year. Lets hope so. Just one piece of advice for Graham though-----if golfing in a tournament that Tiger is involved in, don't take any female family or friends. At the rate Tiger is going, he's not going to break 70.

Some of my friends who read this are upset with FOX for pulling the pin on the New Orleans-Washington game Sunday to go to the doubleheader. I don't know what FOX station you get, but if you get FOX Seattle that's the problem. The NFL TV deal states your teams games must be shown in its entirety. With the Seahawks game against San Fran starting at 315, the network had no choice but to pull the plug on the Saints-Redskins game at 315. Yes, that's a tough pill for some to swallow, but thankfully CTV had the game. You know if you guys were to invest in Sunday Ticket, you wouldn't have that problem.

The Globe has a story saying flipping a coin isn't a 50-50 decision between heads and tails and that a coin toss can be rigged. A UBC study says the results of a coin toss can be manipulated to turn up heads or tails a majority of the time. The manipulation can come from how high the coin is tossed, how quickly its tossed and how many times its spun. Sorry, I'm not buying this one.

Weren't we enjoying temperatures in the plus 10 area a couple of weeks ago?? Where's my extension cord. It may be time to plug in the beast?

I'm not even going to bring up the latest in the Tiger Woods story. This isn't going to end anytime soon. Now there is talk he will show up on Oprah for a confessional interview. Guys, would you watch that?

Have a good Tuesday!

I can hear the CBS commentator saying:" For the second time, in recent history, the Green Jacket will reside north of the border, as Graham DeLaet, of Weyburn Canada win the Masters."

Furthermore, from Sportsnet's Peter Loubardias "The good Canadian kid, Graham DeLaet, wins the Masters. Fine job Son!"

The Oilers aren't going anywhere. Hot spurts here and there won't mean anything in the end.

I'm not buying the coin toss thing either. what a joke!
