You Gotta Be Lucky To Be Good and Good To Be Lucky

The New Orleans Saints are 12-0. Do they deserve to be after yesterday's overtime win over the Redskins? Yes they do. Should they have won that game? No frickin way. The Saints had the Colts horseshoe firmly implanted in their ass on Sunday afternoon as they beat the Washington Redskins 33-30 in overtime in a game that Washington should have won going away.
The Skins seemed to have control at the half as they led 17-10 when Drew Brees threw an interception in the waning seconds. Washington intercepted the pass, but in what is one of the more bizarre plays of the year, New Orleans receiver Robert Meachem ripped the ball away from the intercepting player and ran it in for a TD making it 17-17 at the break.
The Skins then outplayed the Saints in the 2nd half ---at least for most of it--as they led 30-23 with their field goal kicker Shaun Suisham lining up for a 23 yarder. A 23 yarder that would make it a two score game and make victory inevitable. What does Suisham do? You guessed it, he shanks the 23 yarder wide right. With new life, Brees leads the Saints down the field and ties it in the final minute. New Orleans then intercepts a pass on the next Washington drive and tries a 58 yarder at the gun to win it only to have the kick fall a couple of yards short.
In overtime, they capitalize on a Redskins fumble and kick the winning field goal to keep their drive at perfection alive. Even the Patriots were lucky to win every game a couple of years ago. Bottom line is they won and it now begs the question if both the Saints and the Colts can finish the regular season unbeaten. Can you imagine the hype of a New Orleans-Indy Superbowl if both teams are undefeated. Who would the 72 Dolphins cheer for in that one?

Wasn't it this time last year when Brett Favre started to falter with the Jets. He looked horrible in the Sunday nighter as Arizona beat the Vikes 30-17. Brett threw two TDs, but he also had two picks and he didn't look like the Favre that had guided the Vikings to a 10-1 mark. Listening to the guys on NFL Radio, they are wondering if the old man has hit the wall and if so how the Vikings react. The answer--hand the ball off to Adrian Peterson. Favre can't throw the ball 40 plus times a night and expect to win. If Peterson isn't running the ball 20-25 times a night, I don't like the Viking chances. That was proven on this night.

Did the Seahawks win or did San Fran give it to them. I would say the latter. Terrible play-calling by the Niners in the final minute gave Seattle a chance to win, a chance that they took full advantage of. Trying two long passes from deep in your end knowing the clock stops on an incompletion isn't the recipe for success, but its the recipe Alex Smith tried.

Are the Patriots actually a mortal team now? Back to back losses against Miami and New Orleans have people talking. New England is still a playoff team, but I don't think they can stack up with San Diego or Indy at this time.

If Dallas is losing, it must be December.

Tiger now has 6 women claiming he has had affairs with them. How many memberships is Tiger paying for? Have you seen anyone's reputation slide so far in a week. It really makes one wonder how he will be received when he gets back on the golf course. He may have to do one of those confessional interviews on Oprah or Dr. Phil or something just to save some face. At this rate, Tiger Woods 11 will be an X-rated video game.

I told you about Weyburn's Graham DeLaet looking for a spot on the PGA Tour. Here's a story on his quest---one that looks to be ending on a positive note.

Two undefeateds will play for the NCAA college football crown when Alabama plays Texas. That would work if Cincinnati, Boise State and Texas Christian also weren't undefeated. Boise State and TCU will play one another but if Cincinnati wins their Sugar Bowl game against Florida, it will mean in the end there are three teams undefeated and if Florida beats Cincinnati, it means there will be two teams undefeated yet they won't play one another. That is just stupid! Some computer ranking should not determine who are the best two teams in US college football. A playoff system is needed to find out who the real winner is. These games could be played in what is now some of the Tier 2 Bowl games leading up to the big traditional ones. Dare to dream....dare to dream!!

Jordan Eberle shows again why he is the best junior hockey player in Canada. He scored twice and set up two others in a win over Prince Albert. The ovation this kid should get both in Regina and Saskatoon at the World Juniors will be amazing. If he has a great tournament, would the Oilers bring him up? This is a team looking for offence in the wake of the Ales Hemsky season-ending injury.

Baseball's winter meetings start today in Indianapolis. The next few days should be very interesting for new Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos. I get the feeling Roy Halladay's days as a Jay are now very few. He could be gone in the next 24-48 hours.

Gotta wonder who at FOX pulled the "Heidi" and turned off the New Orleans/ Redskins game before the last drive of the fourth quarter. Maybe Dave Naylor should find out the guilty person's identity, LOL!!

I guess Mr or Mrs Anonymous who can so gladly tell you that Arizona doesn't have a chance against the Vikes and that Minnesota will win by 14 can't come by to apologize. That anonymous family sure is bitter because they love to criticize all the time. GO CARDINALS!!

Regina's #1 Cardinal fan!!

There's a Cardinals fan in Regina? There's a Cardinals fan in Canada? Who knew? Enjoy the ride. The Seahawks will be back----------in about 2016.

You can't blame Romo for Dallas' loss yesterday. They just got beat by a better team. That was a great game!

FOX pulling the plug ticked me off too until someone on Facebook pointed out the game was still on CTV...and that Saints Skins game had a Canadian connection...Suisham is from Canada and Mike Sellers who "fumbled" in overtime played in the CFL...
