Like The Sands Through The Hourglass

Its gotta be tough to be a Bombers fan these days. That team has been nothing but one huge disappointment since losing the 2007 Grey Cup. Who did they lose that game to again??? Oh yeah, that's right! They're still bitter about that one too from what I understand. Then again, we can be bitter about the 2009 Grey Cup can't we.

On the same day Lyle Bauer hands in his resignation as president and CEO of the club, the Bombers board also decides to get rid of Mike Kelly. The board cops out by saying they were likely going to fire Kelly after a turbulent seven win season, but one knows Kelly would likely still have a job this morning if it wasn't for what happened at his Philadelphia area home last night. No one can tell me that the board calls an emergency meeting just hours after learning of Kelly's arrest to say he has been fired and that that call would have been made with or without his arrest. That's a complete load of crap. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it!

This shows the class of the Rider organization. If Eric Tillman was in Winnipeg, he'd have obviously been gassed by the board before thoroughly investigating the entire story. What happens to the Bombers if Kelly is found to be innocent and charges are dropped. Does he have the right to file a dismissal suit against them? I would think so! The timing isn't great as the alleged incident comes hours before Bauer's resignation and Bauer had stated he was going to keep Kelly so one wonders if the board didn't want Mike around but couldn't wait any longer after what happened yesterday morning. Whatever way you slice it, it looks pretty greasy.

It sounds as if Greg Marshall is the leading candidate to replace Kelly, but I don't know if I would want to dip my hands into that cesspool anytime soon. The Bombers have become nothing but a greasefire.

Regardless of what happens to Kelly, do you think we will see him on a CFL sideline again. I don't!
------
One guy who will continue to patrol a CFL sideline for a while is Marc Trestman. Even though his name has come up when it comes to NFL vacancies, Trestman is staying in Montreal as he signs a contract extension that takes him through 2012. There is no doubt that Trestman has been huge for the career of Anthony Calvillo and that he has been extremely successful as coach of the Alouettes. I can't see them taking a downward slide anytime soon. As good as Trestman is though, he still needs to win a Grey Cup and not have one handed to him like this year.
------
Maybe the best Thursday night NFL game we have seen in a while as the Colts and Jags went up and down the field with Indy winning in the end 35-31 to stay unbeaten. Indy's defence can be had and so can New Orleans. Is there any team out there that can shut these guys down. Right now, I don't know. I'm starting to think this year's Super Bowl could be a battle of the unbeatens. That would be amazing! Again, who would the 72 Dolphins cheer for in that one.

Let me get this straight. It is now said Jessica Simpson had a fling with Tiger Woods. C'mon!!!! Tiger has more taste than that!!!
------
Speaking of Tiger, the commissioner of the PGA believes his sport will be alright while Tiger gets his life straightened out. Tim Finchem saying they managed fine when Tiger was out rehabbing from his knee injury and then pulling out some figures to prove his point. Its already been proven that if Tiger isn't there, TV coverage is down and tournaments suffer with revenue gained. Finchem is putting on a brave face. I wonder what he says if Tiger doesn't golf at all this season, and there are many now thinking that might happen.

The Canadian juniors are spending time at the RCMP barracks for a couple of days as they do some bonding. Did they get to go to the shooting range? Did they get the chance to taser someone? Was it like an episode of Police Academy? Did they dress up like a Mountie? That would be cool seeing them come out for their pre-tournament game against Sweden looking like Mounties. That would have been better than the green jersey in my mind. Speaking of Sunday's game against Sweden, how big of a roar is Jordan Eberle going to get when he steps out on Brandt Center ice. It should be an emotional moment for the Regina born Eberle.

Vancouver has approved MMA for two years. This means the UFC is going to swoop in there very quickly. Word is they are looking at holding an event there late this summer. One member of city council voted against the motion. Andrea Reimer is hoping that marketing for the sport will be based on a high level of athletic ability, not violence. Doesn't hockey market itself by showing fights Andrea? Get with the times Andrea, get with the times!
-------
I am hearing Bret Hart's return to the WWE will culminate with him stepping into the ring at Wrestlemania 26 with Vince MacMahon. Gee, I wonder what would happen there. Word is Vince was going to challenge Undertaker at Wrestlemania but that plan was scrapped to go with this one allowing Shawn Michaels to ask for a rematch of their epic match last year. I'm all for Bret coming back for a few months, but I don't know if I want to see him performing for a variety of reasons---his health being the biggest one. A Hart-MacMahon matchup would have been great a decade ago, but not now.
-------
It gets no easier for the Pats. Battling a lengthy losing streak already, now the team finds out number one goalie Damien Ketlo is out for a while after suffering a shoulder injury in Edmonton. It means the team is without Ketlo, Jordan Eberle, Colten Teubert and two other defencemen which will be four after Christmas when Myles Bell and Tyler Borstmayer play at the Under 17's. Do you think Brent Parker is waiting for the holidays to end?
------
Why is it kids aren't done school today. I don't know about you, but I think its extremely dumb for the kids to go half a week next week and then go back to school for three days in January before getting the weekend off. Why can't Christmas holidays go from Dec 21-January 3. It makes perfect sense to me. Then again, the entire school schedule these days just confuses me. My oldest daughter got a day off on Wednesday. Did they really need that just days before the holiday. I don't think so. They could have done that a couple of weeks ago, but NOOOO!

If you are a Bombers fan, Xmas has come one week early. Couldn't agree more with you on the school days thing. Ridiculous!

The Bombers situation does seem fishy, but it does look coincidental. I would have to think the board wanted Kelly gone, but Bauer didn't want that to happen. The board pressured Bauer so he resigns not knowing what has happened with Kelly. Once Bauer is gone, it makes the boards decision easy---moreso because of the incident. Kelly can probably make something of this if the charges are dropped. Reality says this should have been done a long time ago though like right after the season.
