Did The NFL Really Have To Go To Detroit?

Sunday's collapse of the Metrodome roof forcing the postponement of the Giants-Vikings game has raised a lot of questions. The big question I have is why couldn't the game have been played at the University of Minnesota. The Gophers have a big enough stadium (50-thousand) and despite cries that it would not have been ready in time for tonight, I don't believe it. In fact, I think they could have gone last night. Yes, it would have meant an all-day procedure and yes, there would have been some tired workers, but it could have been done. In fact, I think if the Giants-Vikings game had been the Sunday night game or the Monday night game than this game would have been played. I can't see the NFL telling NBC that you aren't going to have Sunday Night Football tonight and ESPN certainly wouldn't take the news that there is no Monday nighter that well either.
The NFL was let off the hook because FOX could easily re-arrange its TV schedule to work around the postponement. NBC and ESPN would not have that luxury. There is word today next Monday's game in Minny between the Bears and Vikings will be played at the University stadium. Start working on that facility now is what I say. You said there were too many logistics to get the game in there this weekend so now you have a week to fix the problems.

Watching the pre-game shows yesterday, a lot of people gave the Bears a chance because A) they were home to the Patriots and B) the weather would be ugly. Most said Tom Brady would not be able to run New England's offence efficiently. XM Radio's Adam Schein was the only one who said the elements would not bother Brady and he was right. It doesn't matter what the conditions are. When Brady is on his game, the Patriots are unbeatable. He was incredible against the Bears. I just don't see anyone beating New England at this time.

Do I really have to venture out to the malls or Walmart one last time to get Christmas shopping done. Do I????

I am once again hosting the Sportscage today. We will talk Flames and the Canadian world junior hockey team with the voice of the Flames and the voice of the CHL on Sportsnet---Peter Loubardias and Regina's own Jon Ryan will also take some time out of his schedule to talk about his season with the Seattle Seahawks. I will try to refrain from asking him WTF was yesterday's game all about. I will also talk to a rather disgruntled Brett Favre fan who flew to Minneapolis this weekend hoping to see number 4 do his thing only to have Mother Nature spoil his plans. He's a guy that has a rather successful blog of his own and usually hosts the show on days that I don't.

During the Lions vs. Packers game yesterday the colour guy talked about Stephan Logan's playing history (top returner in the NFL so far) and how he was out of football since college and how he became a pro two years ago after not being given a chance by the Dolphins. It was disappointing that they took no notice of the fact that he became a pro in the CFL with the BC Lions and was a find of Roy Shivers. At least with Cameron Wake (top sack getter) they do mention his time in the CFL when referring to his career.
