The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today import defensive lineman Brent Hawkins is retiring from the Canadian Football League.
Hawkins joined the Riders after signing a free agent contract in April, 2010. In his first CFL season the Illinois State product tallied 31 defensive tackles, four tackles for a loss, three quarterback sacks and two fumble recoveries in 13 regular seasons games. He missed the entire 2011 season after sustaining a shoulder injury during training camp.
Last season, Hawkins played 14 regular season games recording 24 defensive tackles, three tackles for a loss, four quarterback sacks and two fumble recoveries. He ends his CFL career having played in 27 regular season games, three playoff games and the 2010 Grey Cup.
Hawkins and his wife Andrea own a successful personal training business and they along with their son Kai and daughter Anaiyah will continue to make Regina their home.

Tough to see him go. If he would have stayed healthy, he would have been a force.

Could the $$$ being saved on him go to someone else? In other words, from a Hawk to a Chick??? Think about it!
From a Hawk to a Chick to a Egg ???? Think about It ! The Riders will lay a big fat egg to their up coming season. No Grey Cup forth coming anytime soon.
Since we are making predictions, here are mine.
- the Riders will be 11 and 7 this year.
- the Riders will win two Grey Cups before Hamilton wins their next one.
- Winnipeg's current Grey Cup drought will go longer than the Rider's first drought (1921 to 1966, the west couldn't play for the Grey Cup until 1921), so perhaps theirs will end in the late 2030s.

Since we are making Grey Cup predictions, here are mine.
- the Riders will be 8 and 10 this year.
- the Riders will not win two Grey Cups before Hamilton
wins their next one, not possible under current regieme.
- Winnipeg's current Grey Cup drought will not go longer then the Rider's first drought ( 1921 to 1966, the west couldn't play for the Grey Cup until 1921), so perhaps theirs will end sometime soon In the very near future, nobody could be any more Inept then the Roughriders of Saskatchewan with a 100 year plus history with only three Grey Cups to their sorry credit. Winnipeg's Grey Cup winning history on the CFLeague books, right up there at the top with the best.
