A Debut To Remember

Imagine what it must have been like for Blue Jays catcher JP Arencibia. This highly touted rookie comes up from Triple A and makes his major league debut yesterday in front of the home crowd. I'm thinking he had to be, as many others would be, just a tad nervous. If he was, he didn't show it. In fact, he may have given us a glimpse of the future. Arencibia homered on the first major league pitch he was shown, and he did it with Mom right there. When it was all over, he finished 4 for 5 with two homeruns and three RBI's. The two homers were part of eight that the Jays hit on the afternoon.

The Regina Red Sox are one game from the WMBL final. They beat a pesky Moose Jaw team 9-8 Saturday night at Currie Field. Game 4 is in Moose Jaw tonight. Okotoks stayed alive in their series with Swift Current as they now trail 2-1 with Game 4 tonight.

I don't know about you, but UFC 117 was one of the more entertaining cards I have seen in a while. The main event was unreal. Anderson Silva got pounded on for 4 1/2 rounds by Chael Sonnen. However, the challenger got careless and got caught in a triangle choke forcing him to tap. There's no way Silva would have won that match had it not been for that. I'm thinking Sonnen deserves a rematch.

Methinks Travis Lulay's days as a starting quarterback in the CFL are over for the time being. I only saw the highlights, but it looks as if Lulay struggled in a 27-22 loss to Calgary,. It also sounded as if the striped shirts in this game have no idea what pass interference is either. Methinks Mr. Higgins needs to have a chat with his officials about what is and what isn't pass interference after what I saw this weekend.

Who is the CFL schedule maker and why does he have Winnipeg and Hamilton playing one another four times in the first seven weeks of the season? CMON! Even in an eight team league, you can do better than that.

Sportsnet's Arash Madani is a must-follow if you are a sports fan and a member of the Twitter universe. One of Madani's tweets yesterday was about JP Arencibia. The tweet being "This is a JP that Blue Jays fans might actually like." His stuff is brilliant.

Can someone please explain why the Oilers signed Martin Gerber to a contract? Martin Gerber!!!

The Raptors and New Jersey Nets are going to play two NBA games in England next year. ????? Why is the NBA showcasing their game overseas with two teams that are horrible. The slogan should be NBA basketball---not threatening soccer anytime soon. WOW!

I'm off to the Queen City Ex with the family today. How much money will my six year old force me to spend today. She has her day-tripper so really its food and a stuffed animal. How long will it take me to win at Whack-a-Mole or the water gun game.

Apparently Corey Boyd is NOT eligible to be nominated for rookie of the year, as he suited up for one NFL game.

Mitch,

No question the Dos Equis Most Interesting Man would win. It wouldn't even be close. There is the one commercial that specifically states, "He's a lover not a fighter, but he can fight so don't get any ideas". "He also lives vicariously through himself" at which point there is a clip of him in kendo garb.
