Can't The Bombers Get Original?

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are giving their fans a chance to be part of a winning drive.

The CFL club announced Thursday that it's joining Manitoba Public Insurance in launching licence plates celebrating the Bombers, and making 8,100 available on a limited-edition basis.

The two-plate sets -- bearing a Bomber logo and the "True Blue" tag line -- will be available beginning in early June from all Manitoba Autopac agents for $70 each.

The plate design was unveiled at Canad Inns Stadium's Blue and Gold Club.

Though they will be official licence plates, MPI president Marilyn McLaren said buyers will be able to use them only for decorative purposes if they wish.

The public insurer will share some of the revenue through the plate sales with the Blue Bombers.

If the pilot project sees a high demand for the plates, McLaren said, MPI, the provincial government and the Blue Bombers might later issue more.

It's not like the Rider license plate was an original idea either.

Gee, what a great idea! The Riders should talk to SGI about doing something similar. Oh, wait.....never mind.
