C'est Magnifique!!!
When the Montreal Canadiens closed down the Forum in 1996, they ushered the building out with pomp and circumstance. It was a night to remember for Montreal hockey fans and fans in general. As great as that night was for those who love "Les Bleu, Blanc et Rouge", it was nothing compared to what happened at the Bell Centre on Friday.
100 years to the date after playing their first game, the pomp and circumstance was out in full force as Montreal celebrated its 100th year anniversary for the last time before taking on the Bruins by having a ceremony for the ages.
I can only imagine what was going through the minds of Canadiens fans young and old when they saw the likes of Patrick Roy, Larry Robinson, Guy Lafleur, etc. etc. etc come out for a brief warmup. The memories that must have gone through the minds of those who watched the glory years. It was then time for those players to be saluted one last time and that after the jerseys of Elmer Lach and Butch Bouchard were retired, it was time for a picture featuring the all-time greats and the current day team. What a picture that is!
It was a night to remember. The only thing missing was the late great Rocket Richard, but he was remembered as Gordie Howe came out carrying his jersey. The Habs then started the 2nd 100 years off on the right foot as they beat Boston thanks to a Mike Camalleri hat-trick. Camalleri is buy the way one of 776 players to play an NHL game with that famous Montreal logo on their sweater.
If you are a Montreal fan and you didn't see what happened then I hope someday you get a chance to relive this moment. It was outstanding!

Peter Laviolette won't be appearing on TSN's NHL broadcasts anymore---unless its a pre or post game interview. Laviolette is now the coach of the Flyers taking over for the fired John Stevens. Stevens was let go after a disappointing start to the season. Many, including me, thought with the likes of Pronger, Coburn, Richards, Carter, etc. etc that this team would be ready to make a Stanley Cup run. They have been one of the disappointing teams so far.

Mike Holmgren says he is interested in returning to Seattle. Open the door and let the man walk in if he interested.

Another wrestler has left us. Eddie Fatu died today at the age of 36. Those that watch WWE will know Fatu by his stage name "Umaga". He apparently had a heart attack---one that might have been caused by prescription pills. Is the fame and glory really worth it for these guys? I don't know why these guys do what they do when it comes to the abuse they put their body through and how they pay for it in later years. Mickey Rourke's adaptation of "The Wrestler" was not that far-fetched boys and girl. Umaga could very well be one of a long line of wrestlers that we say good-bye to in the next year.

Am I the only one getting sick of the "black taco" ads for Taco Bell?

It was a real life "Field of Dreams". It would have been better though if today's Habs had joined them out there. Imagine seeing Dryden, Roy and Price in one net, Shutt, Lafleur and Camalleri...etc. etc.
R$
RIP Umaga.
