I am a football fan. Whether its the CFL, CIS, NFL or NCAA, I will watch most of the time. The one thing about US college football is you just never know when you are going to see a mammoth upset or a wild finish. Yesterday was one of those days. Cincinnati beat Pittsburgh 45-44 with a last second touchdown to win the Big East Championship. The Bearcats coming right back down the field to get the win after Pittsburgh scored to break a 38-38 tie only to botch the convert when the holder let it slip through his fingers. You just knew the football gods would punish the Panthers for that and it happened.
In a nothing game, Fresno State beat Illinois 53-52 in a game that saw 36 points scored in the 4th quarter. This one also had a bizarre ending as Fresno State scored a touchdown with two seconds left to make it 52-51 Illinois. Fresno State elected to go for the win and not the tie. It looked like it wasn't going to work when Fresno State QB Ryan Colburn got pressured out of the pocket and basically lofted one up for grabs. An Illinois defender went to knock it down, but instead of knocking it down, he knocks it into the arms of a 350 pound offensive lineman who staggers across the goal line for the two point conversion and the win. Imagine if the Grey Cup had ended like that boys and girls!!!!
To cap it off, Texas needed a last second field goal to beat Nebraska 13-12 to advance to the BCS Championship game against Alabama. A Longhorns loss and chaos would have erupted as to what team would have played Alabama for all the marbles. It only proves why US college football needs to have a playoff system. I think having that would create excitement that would be second to none for football fans.

The Pats got started too late at home against Brandon. They didn't score until late in the 2nd and then they turned it on in the 3rd. It was too little, too late though as the Wheat Kings won 6-4. Jordan Eberle had the hat-trick. You have two more chances to see Eberle and Colten Teubert before they head off to the Canadian junior camp. One is tomorrow against P-A, the other is Wednesday against the defending WHL champs from Kelowna.

Glenn Healy was a knob when he worked for TSN and it would seem as if his year (or was it two) with the NHLPA didn't take away his annoying act. Healy is now with Hockey Night in Canada and he still comes away as a knob. The man obviously has no respect for those that made the game he plays as he endorsed an idea that is starting to re-name the NHL trophies. Instead of the Art Ross Trophy, it would be the Gretzky trophy. Instead of the Norris Trophy, it would be the Orr Trophy. Healy just believes we should forget about the past and start honoring the great names of our generation. Does Healy think the Stanley Cup should perhaps be re-named the Canadiens Cup because of their ownership of that trophy over the years? Thankfully, Ron McLean and Mike Milbury both put him in his place. I'd like to see Cherry and Healy go at it on something---that might be good TV.

Quite the story on the front page of the LP today about the woman whose toe was ripped off to pay a drug debt. OWWWWWWW!!!!!!

Its starting to look as if Saskatchewan will have a presence on the PGA Tour. Graham DeLaet of Weyburn is two rounds and a bit away from getting his Tour card. The 27 year old who goes to Boise State University is two strokes off the lead at the final PGA qualifying tournament as the weather-delayed 4th round was coming to an end. The top 25 finishers and ties after the six-round tournament will earn cards for 2010, with roughly 50 more earning fully exempt status for the Nationwide Tour. This means you wouldn't see the Weyburn native at events like the Masters, but you will likely see a lot of him which one would imagine will do wonders for golf in Saskatchewan. Keep it up Graham!

The Colts and Saints will both stay perfect tomorrow. Upset of the day--I'll take the Chiefs at home over Denver. I'm also taking Arizona to beat the Vikings.

If the Jays are ready to trade Roy Halladay and they have already lost Marcos Scutaro, could this mean they are going to make a run at Jason Bay?

Did you see the letter in the LP today from the Bombers fan that was glad to see the Riders lose because it looks good on the fan base? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-SER! Go find that guy in Calgary that says games are too noisy. They are still obviously quite bitter in Loseipeg about dropping the 2007 GC.

Great job by #42 Eddie Lowe's alma mater. Now Tebow knows what the Crimson Tide players felt like last year.
It is too bad that other team's fans have to bash us since we didn't win the Grey Cup. More jealousy that intellect.
One has to wonder what is up with Healey's schtick? For someone who was an average player in the NHL, he comments like he is of Martin Brodeur's and Patrick Roy's calibre.
The Pats must have thought the game started at 8 instead of 7. Their skates were caught in quicksand to start things off. That's two games now where they have let Brandon get off to a big start and then come back. They can play with these guys if they start playing with them when the clock starts.
Didn't see Healy last night, but that idea sounds stupid. Create new trophies if you want(ie: most goals in a season), but don't change the names of existing ones.
Cards over the Vikings? No chance. Vikes by 14.
Glenn Healy,it is unbelievable how he has a job. I love the hotstove segment, and Milbury is really starting to come into his own. HOnestly for the points he makes it's hard to argue with him. I stopped watching Don Cherry a long long time ago. Maybe here or there, but in terms of taking his word as credible forget it he's jurassic clown. I'd dump Cherry so fast, and stick Kelly Hrudey on there.
Regarding the "Toe". Yes scary, but I must be crazy. My mind went right to that great movie "The Big Lebowski". They get Bunny Lebowski's toe in the mail. Walter played by John Goodman doesn't believe it's her's. He says, "bunch of amateurs. There are ways to get a toe Dude. Believe me you don't want to know. I can get you a toe by noon today...with nail polish".....lol.
