A Whole Lotta This, A Whole Lotta That

I like the Western Major Baseball League. Its a lot more competitive than what people think it is. If you go to a game, you find out that its not bad baseball. The problem is finding a way to get people out and to crown a league champ. The league took a bad hit this year when it was unable to crown a champ because of weather meaning the title was split between Okotoks and Melville. Split no more. The league has stripped Melville of its share of the league title and have suspended their governor and coaches for what the league says was "an ineligible player". The league does not go any further though in identifying what the problem was here---and obviously its a big problem when they do what they have done. The WMBL needs to expand on this somewhat because of the severity of the suspensions---one that indicates Melville's franchise must be re-organized and that they hope the team is back in 2010. We need the real story!

Curling has done many things to improve the game over the past few years, however the sport is in danger of taking a few steps backwards if they do what they are considering. The World Curling Federation wants to eliminate extra-end games and playoff tie-breakers. ???????? Their rationale is extra end games take too long thus a win-loss-tie element will be put in with three points for a win and one point for a tie. As for tiebreakers, they would go back to the head to head game between the two and if the tiebreaker involves more than two teams they would go back to the pre-event skills shootout to determine who moves on.
I find both of these ideas to be ludicrous. A curling game needs to have a winner. There is no need for a tie game. Extra-end games can be nail-biters when the skip is in the hack ready to fire that last shot. Many games would be anti-climactic and would leave fans disappointed. This idea is just stupid.
The tiebreaker idea is stupid as well. The World Curling Federation is now saying a closest to the button competition that is held before the event goes on will take the place the tiebreakers. That just makes no sense.
It sounds to me as if there are some in the curling fraternity that want to take out some of the foundation that the sport has built for itself. Here's hoping there is a realization that these ideas are dumb.

It sounds as if my satellite radio listening habits are about to change. One of the more entertaining sports personalities I try to catch on a daily basis is Steve Czaban. 'The Czabe" as he is known is witty, sarcastic, and very, very funny. He puts on a great show. However, the suits at Fox Sports Radio have decided a change is necessary. They have let Czaban know his services are no longer needed as of December 23. FSR management have made some strange programming decisions over the past year in getting rid of guys like Czaban and Andrew Siciliano along with moving JT the Brick to a different time slot. If this is the move that is going to be made, I guess I will go back to listening to Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio. Cowherd, Czaban and Patrick have been a part of my daily routine for quite a while. All three know how to do sports talk-radio.

I missed it at the end of the Vikings-Cardinals game on Sunday night, but the play in which Minnesota linebacker EJ Henderson suffered a broken leg is very gruesome. Its not hard to find it if you need to. Just youtube it.
Speaking of youtube,I can't remember the name of the player right now, but I remember the Vanier Cup in 2007 when it was played on the Friday night before the Grey Cup in Toronto. Manitoba was battling St. Marys and the Bisons starting halfback was going through St. Mary's D like a hot knife through butter when he suffered what might be the ugliest broken leg I've seen in a football game. After breaking off a huge run, the running back got hit to the point that his leg almost swung back and kicked him in the back of the head. I don't know how many people watched that game at Rogers Centre, but when they showed the replay on the Jumbotron, about 25-thousand people all went "OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH" at the same time. It was nasty with a capital N.

Your last chance to see the Pats comes tonight as they welcome the defending WHL champs from Kelowna into the Brandt Centre. This Rockets team won't have the likes of Jamie Benn and Tyler Myers, but they are the champs and its always nice to beat the champs. After this game, the Pats are on the road for 9 as the World Juniors comes into the Brandt Centre. A win here and Friday in Medicine Hat would be nice seeing Colten Teubert and Jordan Eberle will both leave after that game for their time with the Canadian squad. I'm guessing Brent Parker is also working the phones trying to find blueliners. The decision by Alex Pym to leave the team and reconsider his hockey future comes at a terrible time when Teubert leaves for the junior camp with Myles Bell and Tyler Borstmayer playing in the World Under 17 challenge. With Brandon Davidson out with a knee injury, it leaves three healthy d-men. That is not good. I'm guessing calls will be made to Dominic Perreault and Justin Slobozian, but it would be nice if Brent could find a blueliner with some experience out there. That is probably easier said than done right now though.

The Lingerie Football League is expanding. A team will soon be based in Nashville. How can one get this league to consider Canadian expansion. Put a team in Regina so that Rider fans can do something with their "melons" in the winter time. WHAT?!

Tiger's first lost endorsement deal comes courtesy of Gatorade. Are more coming?

HA HA HA!! Did you see Mark Cuban on Monday Night RAW. I watched it Tuesday morning and laughed hard when Sheamus put Cuban through a table. Say what you will about Cuban, but he is never afraid to get his face out there.

I wonder what its like in Florida right now? What about Equatorial Guinea?

High Impact Wrestling won't be back until 2010. That's a shame. A card this Friday or next would have been outstanding.

Spring rolls from Little Saigon are way too good. Way too good!!

The "Taking of Pelham 1-2-3" is a good movie, but I thought it would be better. Speaking of movies, I have both Step Brothers and Role Models waiting to go on the PVR. I have heard nothing but great things of both shows. What one do I watch first and are there any more reviews that I need before watching.

UFC fans. Joe Rogan is coming to Saskatoon to put on a comedy show June 17 at TCU Place. Would my fellow friendly neanderthals that I watch UFC with be considering a road trip?? I'm in for that if you are.

Curling eliminating the extra-end is just plain stuoid. Its been part of the game since rocks started being thrown. If you want to reduce the time factor, play eight ends.

Mitch, have you ever considered that maybe Twitchy and Baldy McDumbDumb are making decisions at FSR.

The Melville story is in the Leader=Post today. It sounds as if Mr. Keller got caught up in some lies. Tsk, Tsk!!

Rogan in Saskatoon? Is he coming to Regina? Do you have ticket info!

If Keller hadn't been such an ass at the end of the year, the league might have been lenient on him. He got greedy at the end wanting two separate gates when it would have been so much easier to play a doubleheader, but NOOOOOOOO. He gambled with the weather and lost. Many in the league were pissed off at him and now they have bitten back. The punishment is a little steep, but what's done is done. We now await the next move.

Agreed. When you have players coming from America it is all dependant on when they can arrive. I'm certain this type of thing happens all the time, but he pissed off people. They all know the dirty secrets, and they hung him out in the wind. No other team will be investigated as they'll all protect their own.

Think of this on par with CFL training camps. They all play a game with that, and every team knows it. The thing is nobody will report on it as that means the light would be shone on them too. Same with taping other teams practices. Everyone does it, but disgrunted Eric Mangini blew the whistle on it just to mess with Belicheck.

The thing I like about Cowherd, Czaban, Patrick, Mike and Mike, Russo, etc. etc. etc. THEY DON'T BRING ON THEIR KIDS! I think you know where I am coming from on this! Probably see you at the rink tonight.

If curling goes this way and they use TV as an example, than golf should just stop at 16 holes and if there is a tie, you have a countback to determine the winner. Let them play and if TV doesn't like it, too bad. Not everything fits into the window TV would like. How many CFL games ended on time. Maybe the CFL should adopt 12 minute quarters to make sure TV is happy. Who thought this idea up?
