Are They In Or Out?

So what's the deal with the Seminole tribe of Florida and the proposed new stadium. We heard earlier this week about their involvement with a group of Saskatchewan first nations in which a 55-thousand seat stadium with an attached casino/hotel would be built. The deal was said to be 1.3 billion. It was contingent on the provincial government selling Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw. Its something the Wall government says they have no interest in doing.

On Friday morning, it looked to be a hoax. A statement from Orlando said the
Seminole Tribe of Florida has not considered or approved any aspect of any project in the Province of Saskatchewan, Canada. In addition, Hard Rock International, which is owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, has not considered or approved any aspect of any project in Saskatchewan. Any discussion of the Seminole Tribe of Florida's or Hard Rock International's involvement is completely speculative."

However on Friday night, the Leader Post's website stated the president of the Seminole Tribe of Florida has signed a memorandum of understanding to partner with Saskatchewan First Nations on such a complex.

Are you confused yet?

As I stated last night, I still think the first option presented seems to be the safest one out there. While I am in favour of Regina getting a new facility, I think one that would seat 55-thousand and costs over a billion dollars might be a little much. Regardless, this story isn't ending anytime soon and won't until ground is finally broken. The question is when will that be if ever.

The moral majority of people seem to believe Ken Miller was robbed when it comes to the CFL coach of the year. I have no problem with Marc Trestman winning the award as he did lead the Alouettes to a 15-3 record, but I still think when you consider all the turmoil he had to go through that Miller did a better job. The question I have in all of this, and it was a question I had when a member of the Football Reporters of Canada is why this award is voted on after the season. All of the other CFL awards are voted on before the playoffs. That's the way it should be. You don't vote on awards after the championship game is played. So why does the CFL insist on not naming its coach of the year during Grey Cup week and doing it now. Why is the voting done after the Grey Cup game. I think its laziness on the part of many voters who just look to see who won the Grey Cup and put the x besides the coach of that team. Oh well, there's no use crying about it now.

The Pats beat the Hurricanes 4-2 in what was really a nothing game as both teams are out of the playoffs. Jordan Weal had a pair of goals as he tries to become the WHL scoring leader. He has 96 points--two back of teammate Jordan Eberle. It asks the question "When was the last time one team had the top two scorers in the league". Actually, it asks a second question, "How can you have the top two scorers in the league and not be going to the playoffs!" SIGGHHHHHHH!!!!

My best friend is a huge New Jersey Devils fan. He made the trek to Calgary to see his team play Friday night. They got beat 5-3. If you wanted to see them lose Gord, you just should have went to Edmonton for Sunday's game.............

Maxim Lapierre gets four games for his cheap shot on San Jose's Scott Nichol Thursday night. Four games?! It should have been more. A lot more. I'm guessing if Nichol had laid there for a while or got helped off on a stretcher that it would have been more.

How about this goal from Pavel Datsyuk against Nashville!

Its Telemiracle weekend in Saskatchewan. It constantly amazes me how generous Saskatchewan people are. Ring those phones! Telemiracle weekend also means Beverley Mahood.

Enough said!

There is talk the Seahawks are about to make an offer for restricted free agent (and diva/headcase)Brandon Marshall. If the Broncos don't match the offer, it means Seattle will give up its first draft pick this year---number 6 overall. Marshall is a talented receiver, but he has a Terrell Owens type attitude to him and I don't think he would be a good fit--especially when you have to give up number 6. Then again, Seattle does need help on offence and there isn't a receiver that would go top 6 in the draft. Methinks you find another receiver in free agency and draft an o-lineman or quarterback at 6. Seattle also has the 14th pick and all the mock drafts have them taking Clemson RB CJ Spiller. I'm all for that scenario playing itself out.

The Brier begins today. Darrell McKee's rink is skipping Saskatchewan. Its been how long now since this province won the Brier?

Sometimes you just see headlines that make you have to read the story. Case in point...

As you go into the weekend, I ask you this....

Was the pole vault accidentally discovered by a clumsy javelin thrower?

The LP calls last night's win a "character" win. Yeah, beating another team that isn't going to the playoffs isn't really called character. Its just they coasted a little more than you. That game last night was terrible. The only bright spot was Weal. He could be the leading scorer this year and next.
