Bring Back The Shamrock Shake!

Yesterday was St. Patrick's Day. I don't have to tell you that. Many of you I'm sure spent part of your evening at your favourite watering hole with a pint or two of your favourite ale. I'm sure many of you were wearing green as well. Tell the truth, did that green have a /=S=/ logo on it. My green apparel didn't, but it was a University of Miami Hurricanes shirt. I digress.
While out and about on what was a glorious spring day, it dawned on me that McDonalds must have a shamrock shake seeing it was St.Paddy's Day. I love shamrock shakes! I have since I was a kid. I stopped at my closest MacDonalds, walked in and asked for a shamrock shake. The girl behind the till didn't have a clue as to what I was talking about. ?????!! Even the manager had no idea what I was talking about. The Shamrock Shake is a staple of McDonalds. I'm sure they had them last year. If not, it was two years ago.
Yeah, I can go to Dairy Queen, or the Milky Way, or the Polar Palace and get a mint flavoured shake, but its not the same. Thumbs down to Mickey D's I say. Thumbs down!

If yesterday was St. Patrick's Day, there might be a few out there who are basketball fans who may just call in sick this morning. In fact, that sickness might take them through the end of the week. Why is that? Simple!

The NCAA mens basketball tournament begins today. I love this tournament. It is right behind the World Junior Hockey Championship when it comes to my must-see events--especially the first two days. Schools like Sam Houston State, North Texas, Vermont and Montana get their 15 minutes of fame and maybe some more as they look to complete a major upset. Buzzer-beaters, Gus Johnson blowing a gasket, raw emotion and passion. It just doesn't get any better. The brackets have been filled out. I split my brackets between West Virginia and Kentucky. A few years ago I had some real magic as I picked all four teams in the final four in a contest "The Score" had going. I needed Michigan State to beat Arizona and then lose to Duke in the final. I was 3rd out of thousands of entries going into the final four, but the Spartans lost to Arizona and I tumbled out of the top 10. I ended up in the top 50 and got a gift certificate from "Future Shop". I don't even remember what I bought.

I'm not sure what the Seahawks are doing. They have paid an overwhelming amount of money to a guy who hasn't thrown a football in a meaningless game in years. They traded 2nd round picks with San Diego and gave the Chargers a 3rd round pick in 2011 for quarterback Charlie Whitehurst. They then signed Whitehurst to a two year worth 5 million a year. That's a little hefty for a guy who hasn't thrown a regular season pass while watching Phillip Rivers do his thing. I would think this means Seattle's chances of drafting a quarterback at 6 are now gone. I have to wonder if this could mean the end of Matt Hasselbeck. His best days are behind him, but he can still play. This comes just hours after I heard a very interesting rumour that would see Seattle involved in a 3 way trade with the Eagles and Saints. It would see Donovan McNabb go to Seattle, New Orleans would get the 6th overall draft pick and running back Julius Jones. Reggie Bush would go to Seattle and be reunited with former college coach Pete Carroll with New Orleans giving Philly the 32nd overall pick. I really couldn't see that happening before the Whitehurst announcement was made, and I really can't see it now.

All hockey eyes will be on Boston tonight when the Penguins take on the Bruins. Boston is out for blood after Matt Cooke's hit on Marc Savard that is going unpunished. It is believed the Bruins are out to get Cooke and will target him and their other top players including Sidney Crosby. The NHL has assigned their two senior refs--Stephen Walkom and Bill McCreary to call the game. This has all the feeling of a Bertuzzi-Moore incident happening again. I'm guessing there will be several conversations had before the game. Cooke will have to answer for his sins and he will drop the mitts at some point. Hopefully, that is all that will happen.
Meanwhile, the league has another incident to deal with. This is what happened in Anaheim last night when the Ducks met Chicago.

The latest player to be a contestant in the NHL's Spin the Wheel of Justice is Anaheim's James Wisnewski. He should be gone for a while after this one. I see it and two things come to mind

1)Wisnewski comes after Seabrook well after the initial hit on Perry. Why not come after Seabrook immediately?
2)Perry got back up and can take care of himself. Why didn't he?
3)Was the hit Seabrook gave Perry a dirty one?

Wisnewski was looking to hurt Seabrook and he did. He didn't plaster him face first into the boards, but he did take a long run at him. The NHL's new head shot rule is not in effect yet, but they might as well start by letting players know that won't be tolerated. Mr. Campbell, the ball is in your court yet again. Meanwhile, hockey gets yet another smear on it after having a great Olympics. By the way, the ref gave Wisnewski two minutes for charging. Yes, TWO minutes!
Still with the Hawks, how is it Sidney Crosby won't do Letterman, but the entire Chicago team appeared on Leno Tuesday night and did a comedy bit as well. The Hawks made Sid look bad......real bad!

Is Swift Current ready for Vic Rauter? Is Vic Rauter ready for Swift Current? Speaking of which, who is on the committee for the 2011 Mens Worlds that will go in Regina next year. I'm more than willing to help out with anything media-related so if anyone knows who to contact, lemme know!

Is it really going to snow today?

As you go into your Thursday, I leave you with this....

Isn't it about time somebody small tried to fly around the world on a goose?

When the Refs come into the Boston dressing room, they should tell the zebras "Tell Bylsma to scratch Crosby, Malkin and Cooke, otherwise what happens to them is their fault". Sure that is intimidation, but if Pittsburgh wants them to play beyond today, it would be in their best interest to do the "Smart thing" and scratch them. For the bleeding heart liberals, Cooke should have grabbed a brain and play hockey, not goonism. He made a choice, and now the Penguins will have to pay the price.

Too lazy to look it up?

Shamrock Shakes were widely available across Canada and the United States until the early 1990s. They are still available at select American stores during the month of March.

In 2008, McDonald's Canada brought back the Shamrock Shake for a limited time only starting on February 26.[4] At that time, it had not been available in Canada for five years.

My teacher used to hand out coupons for free Shamrock Shakes when I was in Grade 4. Her husband was a manager of the McD's on North Albert. I had sort of forgot about them until you mentioned it.

Who's Boston going to send after Cooke. Lucic? Chara? The Bruins don't have a guy like a Boogaard or a Laraque or a Orr that can give Cooke the beatdown he deserves. Having said that though, I can see Lucic going after him.

Do Chicago defenceman have targets on their uniforms now? First Campbell and now Seabrook. The Anaheim guy certainly picked his spot as he waited until well after the Perry hit. Makes you wonder what would have happened had Chicago cleared the zone immediately.

Does the NHL actually have an Intent to injure penalty? If so the Wisnewski hit on Seabrook would've definitely applied. Wouldn't it at least be roughing as his gloves were right in the face of Seabrook?
If Wisnewski had a beef with Seabrook he should've dropped the gloves and fought him, like Keith did right after hit on Seabrook.

Two minutes for boarding? That should have been 5 and a game. That's one of the bigger problems as well is that the refs are too lenient. How can whoever this was justify that being a two minute penalty and not five. It was a deliberate attempt to injure.

BRING BACK THE SHAMROCK SHAKE!

CMON KANSAS!
