The Dinos scored a 4-3 win on Friday, but the Cougars recovered with a 2-1 victory on Saturday night. Rianne Wight had a huge weekend for Regina, scoring twice on Friday and adding another two – including the game winner with four minutes left – during the win on Saturday. Kelcie McCutcheon was also all over the scoresheet, assisting on all five of the team’s goals over the two games. The Cougars will play a home-and-home against Saskatchewan (2-0-0) this weekend, hosting the Huskies on Friday night at The Co-Operators Centre before the two teams meet in Saskatoon on Saturday.
Men’s Hockey – Terrance DeLaronde had a three-point night to power the Cougars (2-2-0) to a 5-2 road win over Manitoba on Friday night, but the Bisons earned the split with a convincing 7-0 victory on Saturday. The Cougars are right back in action this weekend with a home-and-home against the Saskatchewan Huskies (1-1-0). The two teams will meet in Saskatoon on Friday night and in Regina at The Co-Operators Centre on Saturday night. Both games will face off at 7 p.m.
Men’s Basketball – The Cougars dispatched Briercrest College by a score of 126-80 in an exhibition game last Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on both nights.
Rams Football (CIS Ranking: No. 4) – The Rams return to the field on Saturday after the bye week against the Manitoba Bisons, who are tied for fifth in the conference with a 1-4 record. The team went into the weekend without injured all-conference post Brittany Read, then lost backup post Anne Mercer – who was starting in place of Read – early in the Laurentian game. The Cougars, who are 4-1 against CIS competition this season, continue their non-conference schedule this weekend in Winnipeg.
Cross Country (Men’s CIS Ranking: No. 8) – The men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel south for the Minot State Invitational on Friday afternoon. Men’s Volleyball – The Manitoba Bisons put up a perfect 5-0 record to win the 2010 Cougar Invitational, a six-team, three-day non-conference men’s volleyball tournament at the CKHS. The host Cougars pushed three of their matches to five sets, but ended up in sixth place with an 0-5 record. Regina will have non-conference matches against SAIT and Mount Royal on Oct. 22 and Oct. 23 before opening up the Canada West schedule in early November.
