The Future Of Richie Hall

If what the Edmonton media is saying today is correct, than Richie Hall will be a man looking for a job by the end of the week. Word is he will be fired as head coach of the Edmonton Eskimos. This isn't surprising for two reasons. 1)Eric Tillman wants his own guy (see Kavis Reed) and 2) If Richie wasn't good enough to coach the Riders being spurned for Kent Austin and Ken Miller when Eric was here, I certainly can't see him sticking around in Edmonton. That's too bad, because as everyone around Rider Nation knows Richie is a great guy. Is he a head coach? We may never know. Did he really get a chance in Edmonton if indeed he is gone. He worked under the buffoonery that was Danny Macioccia and had to work with a team that was slowly disintegrating when it came to talent because of someone who despite what some in the Alberta capital will say pulled the strings.
One Edmonton report has suggested that if Hall were to be let go, he could end up in Hamilton with Marcel Bellefeuille. I've asked the question and so have many others. Could Richie come back to Saskatchewan? Why not? There is no arguing that he can put together a damn good defence and we have the guys here that can make a defence work. If there is interest, what does that mean for Gary Etcheverry. Etch has said in the past that he would like to become a CIS head coach. I don't know if there are any vacancies in the CIS, but if he were to get one, it would certainly improve Richie's chances. Perhaps the braintrust here wants a change on defence. If they do, we won't know for a while yet. Lets go one step further. If Ken Miller steps aside, (and there is no sign of that happening) would Richie be considered a head coaching candidate in Saskatchewan. I think that's a longshot, but in the CFL you never know.

While surmising on the future of Richie Hall, lets surmise on the future of another former Rider coach and that's Danny Barrett. Rod Pedersen put on his blog last week that he was told Danny was coming back to the CFL as an offensive co-ordinator. Eric Tillman has always said he was friends with Danny and he claimed one night on the CJME sportshow when I was there that he had told Turner Gill about Danny which led to the two of them getting together at the University of Buffalo. Would E-T bring D-B to Edmonton? Lets just say I like the chances of that quarterback who was a Rider head coach a lot better than another quarterback who was a Rider coach ending up in Edmonton as one John Lynch has suggested.

The Pats are an enigma to me. One night they look god awful terrible and the next they take the top team in the WHL--Portland--to overtime before losing. I don't know what the gameplan is in the office of Chad Lang, but he seems to be on the right track. Then again, they could go out and crap the bed against Seattle on Friday and I and many others will wonder if last night was just an illusion. Consistency is needed. If they get it, they will be OK.

Why are drivers not given a turn left signal on Sask Drive at Broad. They should be given one. When the traffic is heavy coming out of the downtown core, drivers should be given an arrow to head left on Broad when going west. I sat at that intersection for at least 10 minutes last night because the traffic in front of me that wanted to turn left couldn't.

A salute to businesses that aren't opening their doors until noon because of Remembrance Day. Thank you to all who have served Canada past and present. We may not show it everyday, but we are grateful for what you have done.

The forecast is calling for a low of minus 14 on Sunday night. It will be a lot colder than that if the Riders should lose. By the way, this snow isn't going away is it?

Has anyone asked Darian Durant where Ryan Phillips is buying him supper? Phillips said he would last week if the Riders beat Edmonton. I'm sure Darian will take him up on the offer AFTER the game. By the way, check TSN.ca for a great feature by Brian Williams on Darian and his brother Justin and their older brother.

This idea to "improve" the NHL all-star game is dumb. Here's a better idea. Lets scrap the NHL all-star game altogether. In fact, lets scrap all all-star games! They don't reflect the sport that is being played. Baseball is the closest but guys only play a couple of innings. Do we really need all-star games?

If you watch CMT or are a fan of country music, you already know this, but if you don't and you watched the CMA's last night you had to be going "How many gorgeous women are there in the country music business." WOW!!! For what its worth, the TV is usually on CMT during the day because there is nothing else on.

A lot of debate going on right now as to who the best teams in the NFL are. You might think I am right off the wall with this one, but I think the Thursday night NFL game between Baltimore and Atlanta is one that could be replayed at the Super Bowl. Yes, both teams are that good!

Baseball lost one of its great voices last night as Seattle Mariners broadcaster Dave Niehaus died of a heart attack at the age of 77. Niehaus had been with the Mariners ever since they started in 1976 and you could see him do a lot of games on Sportsnet West. He was one of the good ones.

I've come to the conclusion that Facebook is a woman because a man would never ask "What's on your mind?"

Why do we have to recycle old coaches anyhow? If Etch was to leave for CIS why not bring in a younger coach with different ideas? Seems to work in other places.(Calgary) I say if Hall is fired by EE let him go to Hamilton. Surely there is some new outstanding talent somewhere. Too bad for Richie but I feel you don't move forward by looking back.

The Pats might have played their best game of the year last night. They deserved a "W".

I would gladly accept Richie back into the Rider fold. I think a lot of players would too. Hell, it might lure Schultz out of retirement.

I've been a Mariners fan since they started playing in the majors. I've listened to Niehaus do many a game and I had the privilege of meeting him several years ago before a game. A true legend of the game. RIP!

Richie Hall was a "Dead Man Walking" the day Tillspin was hired in Edmonton. Dave Dickenson mentioned as another posiibility in Edmonton. Kavis Reed makes sense because Tillspin loves him and he is a legendary Eskimo.

Ritchie will probably land up in Winnipeg.
