Something To "Mitch" About

Has John Paddock unintentionally or perhaps intentionally given the Brandon Wheat Kings some bulletin board material. Paddock told the Regina media after their first round series win "The Wheat Kings to some extent have their Memorial Cup tickets booked". I would expect that type of comment to come from a player and not Paddock, but perhaps he's cagey and smart enough to realize exactly what he is doing. I'll give him a pass on this one.

On Friday, I asked about how many Regina Pats had gone to the NHL since 1970 and a couple of commenters referred me to a website which has the information. Ron "Scoreboard" Johnston and Kevin Shaw deserve a lot of kudos for the information provided.  The unofficial number is 102 with 139 being the number in franchise history. Thanks to those who pointed that info out and thank you Scoreboard and Kevin.

Coca-Cola apparently doesn't think Saskatchewan exists.  The FIFA Womens World Cup trophy tour has started with 12 stops being made across Canada to promote the event and the sport. Are any of those 12 stops in Saskatchewan. NO!!! The question is why? Are we not good enough here? We have a member of the womens national team (Kaylyn Kyle) who comes from this province and favourited my tweet when I sent my displeasure of this to the tour and right now, the WCP Cup is going on in Regina. I think there is a soccer appetite in this province and its a slap in the face to us that we are being ignored as far as I'm concerned. I knew there was a reason why I drink Pepsi.  Then again, they were responsible for that miserable attempt at starting a chant at the World Juniors when it was here. Do you remember that botched marketing stunt?

Tweet of the weekend comes from @cflhistory

It reads Not many people know that Henry Burris recently converted to Judaism, it is obvious, since all his throws Pass-over his receivers.   That's cold and hurtful, but fair.

Speaking of Smilin Hank, the story surrounding him and his desire to stay in Canada is one that I'm guessing a lot of Americans that want to stay here following their careers go through. Here's hoping everything gets sorted out for Burris, but here is the question I have. If Burris becomes a Canadian citizen while still playing in the CFL, does he become a "national". If Weston Dressler wanted to do this, could he become one? Is this the first question the new CFL commish must answer? I would think the answer is yes.

I had the opportunity Friday to watch High Impact Wrestling at its birthplace as an "intimate" gathering was at the Exchange for a performance. It was dark, it was dingy, it was independent pro wrestling at its best and at its roots. As always, it was an entertaining night as the boys (and ladies) of the promotion get ready for an April 24th megacard at the Highland Club known as Spring Meltdown.  If you have never experienced HIW and have wanted to, I suggest being at the Highland.

The baseball season is underway. I don't see the Blue Jays being a serious contender in the American League East and I see the Cubs making some noise, but not enough in the National League Central. At the end of the day, I see the Baltimore Orioles and L-A Dodgers playing for the World Series.

The last week of the NHL season is going to be a lot of fun. Could the Penguins be on the outside looking in? It certainly looks like the game next Saturday afternoon in Winnipeg between the Jets and Flames could be a play-in game. GO JETS!!! I haven't even come close to deciding a Stanley Cup favourite or where my loyalties would go in a playoff draft. I still like Chicago even though they don't have Patrick Kane, but once the playoffs hit, how much will his absence hurt?

Can someone please explain to me how and why Rob Ford is on the Hockey Hall of Fame Board of Directors. Who made that decision?

Did they really play ABBA at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax after Sweden won the World Mens Curling Championship? Was there no Roxette available?

Congratulations to the Regina Pat Canadians and good luck at the Telus Cup, Saskatchewan teams have done pretty well at national championships over the past few years so lets keep the ball rolling.

Tiger Woods will play at Augusta! Let me try and control my enthusiasm.

Industry insiders estimate Kentucky's loss to Wisconsin will cost the program as much as 1.5 million in royalty fees and 15 million in championship gear they now won't sell. Yes, and the NCAA refuses to bend on any rules that would give these players any money and sanctions the program hard if athletes do something to get some $$$$. There is no hypocrisy in that at all is there. BTW, it was nice to see Kentucky go down especially when you saw some of their players refuse to shake hands at the end of the game. Win with class and lose with class.

That's all I got. Have a good week!

With the HHOF being in Toronto, an agreement was reached to allow the City of Toronto to appoint up to 3 people of their choosing to the HHOF Board of Directors.

At least you mentioned the Wisconsin-Duke game tonight unlike Mr. High and Mighty!

Anonymous #2 is everything wrong with this world today.

If I were the HHOF, I would move to Hamilton.

What did they do the city of Toronto?

I am guessing a fruit basket would be a better offering.

Scruffy, your Cubs were 0-13 with men in scoring position. Do they not know the rules? HA HA HA!

I'm already tired of this FIFA world cup propaganda and it hasn't even started yet. Just because Canada is good in ladies soccer it doesn't make me a soccer fan. Ppl are such bandwagon jumpers

Scruffy; The proper number is not 102 it's 96 since the 70/71 season when the Tigers franchise started. Check it out on 'Scoreboards' webpage. The first 6 players listed in the 66-75 era played for the Pats prior to the Tigers being formed.

I can't see how immigration can say being a CFL'er is a part time job. That is ridiculous.

While I love RPs blog, the thing I love about this blog the most is NO OBAMA!!!

Thanks for nothing Coke! A lot of soccer fans in this province are feeling snubbed.

I spoke with Obama's mom and she explained that her little guy needs to catch up on his school work so he has had his computer privileges cut back until his marks get better. His mom says that once he gets into high school, he can play on his computer as Obama all he wants before supper.

Uphemism? Did you find that word in a hillbilly dictionary?
