Men's Hockey –
Looking to complete a season sweep over Lethbridge after beating the Pronghorns
by scores of 7-4 and 8-4 in November, the Cougars are at The Co-operators
Centre this weekend for what will be the only home games this week for U of R
Athletics. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. for
Saturday’s matinee. The Cougars (4-14-0) resumed Canada West play last weekend
with 6-2 and 3-1 setbacks to Calgary.
Wrestling (Women’s CIS Ranking: No. 3 / Men's CIS Ranking:
No. 8) – The women's wrestlers captured
third place in the team standings at the Golden Bear Open last weekend thanks
to first-place finishes from Kayla Brodner and Kristine Longeau. Sean Belisle
earned first place in his weight class, helping the men to a fifth-place finish
overall. The women's team is in action this weekend, travelling to Guelph to
compete in the Guelph Open on Saturday.
Women's Hockey – The Cougars are coming off a weekend split against the Calgary Dinos, winning 4-3 on Friday before falling 3-0 the following afternoon. Stephanie Sawchuk had three points for the Cougars on Friday, while Jaycee Magwood, Kylie Gavelin and Tessa Wilson each scored once. Now tied for fourth in the Canada West standings, the Cougars (7-7-3-1) are on the road this weekend to face Lethbridge (6-9-2-1).
Track & Field – The Cougars have their first meet of the second half of the schedule this weekend, as they’ll make the short trip up to Saskatoon to compete in the Sled Dog Meet. Events start on Friday afternoon and continue through Saturday. This weekend marks the first of five consecutive weekends that the Cougars will be competing – they’ll be in action in Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, and Regina or Seattle the following four weekends.

The Cougars travel east this weekend for matches against the University of
Winnipeg on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. The team now holds a 1-13 record
after a pair of losses to Calgary last weekend at the Centre for Kinesiology,
Health & Sport, and will face a Winnipeg team that comes in with a 4-10
conference mark.
Men’s Volleyball –
Last weekend featured one of the longest sets in Canada West history, as
Calgary needed to score 38 points to win the first and would go on to outlast
the Cougars in four to complete the weekend sweep. The Cougars (1-13) will hit
the road this weekend for Friday and Saturday matches against No. 6-ranked
Winnipeg (9-5).
Women’s Basketball (CIS Ranking: No. 4) – The Cougars move up two spots in this week’s CIS Top Ten
after two convincing wins over Trinity Western, defeating the Spartans 79-43
and 84-55 in a rare Saturday/Sunday series at the CKHS. Now 9-1 on the season,
the Cougars are in second place in the Pioneer Division and will have this
weekend off before returning to action on Jan. 22 and Jan. 23 at UBC.
