The Store Is Different, But The Lineups Remain The Same

Have you been to the new Walmart in south Regina yet? What are your thoughts on the "Supercenter"? I have been to the new place twice--the 2nd one being earlier today. I gotta tell you, I'm not giving it a passing grade.

Yeah, its all shiny and new, but I'm just not impressed. Here are just some random thoughts that I accumulated during the visit

1)Is there a shortage of carts? The Mrs. managed to grab one, but there weren't many available---at least not that I could see
2)The pop machine at the front of the store is out of order. One month in and the machine is down. I'm guessing the machine isn't used that much anyways seeing its on the side where you walk in and not walk out.
3)Both times that I have been there, many store shelves have been in need of being re-stocked.
BLOGGER NOTE: It takes for ever for the Mrs. to buy shampoo. I could have went through that place twice methinks and gotten what I needed before she decided on what shampoo to get. Is this really a tough decision for women?
4)They did have a Georges St. Pierre action figure at this store which I don't think I've seen at the other Regina Walmarts when in them. They also had a Michael Bisping action figure. I thought about purchasing one for one of the well-meaning neanderthals that gather at the home of Saskatchewan's sexiest blogger on UFC PPV nights but I didn't. I must get the message through to him though.
5)Both times I have been there I have run into former co-workers. I will not identify these people for both may not want to be let it known that they like me are giving money to the corporate machine known as Walmart.
6)I checked out a laptop and saw two keys missing on said laptop. ???????
7)The grocery store is in fact a true grocery store. Why is this? Its because people stop to congregate oblivious to the fact that someone might want to pass through. Grocery stores really need to have a place to meet and mingle to avoid this problem. For some reason, this really bothers me. It shouldn't since I should be used to it seeing it happens every frickin time I go out but it does.
8)The store might be brand new, but the Walmart philosophy of having lengthy lines at each open till lives strong and true. It might be worse at this one because of the amount of people who are buying groceries. It is baffling to me and many others how there can be so few tills open with each line being about 6-7 deep if not more.
9)Because of the little one's desire to have lunch at MacDonalds, we decided to do so. Some woman in her 50's felt it was her right to just step in front of us in line and place her order. I'm guessing this is the mother of "Princess" from the 12 items or less post last week. Needless to say, I and another person let this woman know what an ignorant bitch she was. (NOTE: This should not be blamed on Walmart, this should just be blamed on the ignorance of those who feel they are far more important than they are.
10)There really is no place to put your cart inside the MacDonalds meaning you must leave it unattended outside while sitting down inside. When you have about 100 dollars worth of stuff in the cart and you leave it unattended for a few minutes, one can get a little uneasy.

That's about it. Its no better than any other Walmart I've been to and its no worse either. I will still take the one closest to me. I do admit I do want to check out some Walmart groceries to see what their produce, meat and delis are like. I'm guessing it can't be any different than Costco. I was expecting more. I can't give it a thumbs up.

Anyone thinking like me or have I just gone at times that are considered "bad"?

I'm not a big fan either. The lineups seem to be longer than ever before, but that is what you should expect when you add groceries to the equation. Its my wish that when you went through the checkout, you wouldn't have both groceries and whatever so they could be two separate lines, but you can't do that.

My wife asked the other day how long it will take before some lowlife decides to steal a cart full of goodies while the people are in MacDonalds. I'm sure it probably has. If a rash of them occur, they will have to do something.

Those of us who come from small towns still like shopping at the local mom and pop stores BECAUSE we don't want to put up with the insanity of the Big Box stores. Sure it cost more for the product, but we don't have to deal with the "hoity toities" and other "princesses" that you were referring to Mitchell.

I don't mind the new Walmart, but I'm happy with the one I have in the northwest end. I do agree with you about not having the shelves stocked though.
