Former Pat In Big Trouble

Rick Rypien can expect a phone call from NHL commissioner Gary Bettman in the next little bit and its a call Rypien won't like. If you haven't seen it, Rypien put his hands on a beaky fan last night in Minnesota. Click here to see the story and video from ESPN.

I'm thinking he'll get around 10 games for this, but I'm also thinking the NHL has to come down hard on the Wild as well. Notice that there was nothing separating the fans from Rypien. No security, no nothing. That's unacceptable!

After losing Game 1, I didn't think Texas stood a chance against the Yankees. I'm now left to wonder if the Rangers should be celebrating a four game sweep because were it not for that 8th inning in Game 1, Texas would be dragging out the brooms.

Its just way too much fun being involved with "The Sportscage" whether it be sitting in with Pedersen or hosting which I will do Friday seeing the Riders are in Edmonton. It will probably be the last time I host for a long time seeing RP won't be making any more road trips for Saturday games. OK, I'll do the Monday show after the Grey Cup when the Riders win and he's too hung-over from celebrating.

Wild hockey game in La Ronge last night. The Battlefords Stars trailed La Ronge 5-2 with less than four minutes to play, but they came back to win 6-5. My buddy Dan O'Connor will probably talk about that one for a while. Meanwhile, I told Rod on the Cage today that don't be surprised if the Humboldt Broncos lose their 2nd of the year in Estevan. The Bruins just about came through as they lost in overtime.

Every CFL team needs more guys like Eddie Johnson. I personally have to wonder why Johnson would give up bartending for football. By the way, if you want to see the bar Eddie works at in Newport Beach, California---check it out right here. I'm guessing if you go to this place wearing something with the /=S=/ on it that Eddie will set you up this winter.

There are a few people out there that believe Eric Tillman will walk off the field smiling like a butcher's dog after the Eskimos upset the Riders in the Western semi-final. That won't happen will it. It can't.
-----
There is no prettier ball park in the majors than the home of the Giants. Really, is there any better place than AT and T park.
-----
The Cubs select Mike Quade to be their new manager. I (and many other Cub fans) wanted Ryne Sandberg to get the job. Perhaps Sandberg would consider the Jays managerial opening.
-----
Did you see the front page of the Leader-Post on Tuesday with the newlyweds coming home and seeing their car on their roof courtesy of the groom's brother. That's cold! Funny, but cold!
-----
I was not at the RAW or Smackdown in Calgary or Edmonton so that could not have been me holding up the signs saying "Renee Paquette is hot". However, it could have been.

A bullet in the head is the best thing for Colonel Russell Williams. Yes, I know that's a harsh statement, but reading the stories about his crimes and his demented personality is simply nauseating. That being said, I'm sure if this guy ever gets out of solitary confinement that he will be done in prison-style.
-----
The LP's Greg Harder talks about the Pats trading Carter Ashton in his Slap Shots blog on the paper's website. Ashton won't be with this team by the time the season ends. It will be interesting to see where he goes and what Chad Lang can get for him. I'm guessing Portland would be very interested in Ashton's services. Lorne Molleken would love to see Ashton in a Blades uniform too, but what will it cost.

Minimum 10 for Rypien at least. You can't have that. You're right on security, but you can't have that.

I'm one of those people that not only think Tillman walks off the field a winner in the WSF, but that they win Saturday as well. I think Eric relishes the fact that he can spoil this season for his former employer.

You and Pedersen make a good team. You need to co-host a little more.

There looks to be no protection whatsoever in that video. Who thought up that plan? Rypien can't be touching fans, but those fans are just stupid if they think they're untouchable. I can't see the NHL reducing the suspension because of that, but I can see the Wild getting punished. I'd say about 10 games is right.

Mitch,

A friend of mine went to Raw in Calgary. He said it was lame. Bret Hart's only appearance of the night was AFTER raw was over.

There was one "Taber Corn" chant.

They'll throw the book at Ryp because he's a plugger, not a superstar. I would imagine the fine he gets will be significant as well.

Too bad the rest of the Canucks are playing more like Kelly Ripa than Rick Rypien right now.

It was me on October 19th when Raw was in Calgary who was holding up the pink sign reading "Renee Paquete is hot!" I still have the sign and will be willing to post a picture for proof if requested.
