The deaths of Rick Rypien, Wade Belak and Derek Boogaard this summer has been tough to take for anyone connected with hockey, but what has happened today is the worst of all. A plane carrying the KHL team Lokomotiv crashed just after take-off today killing 43. Amongst the dead are former NHL'ers Pavol Demitra and Josef Vasicek. The story sadly has a Saskatchewan connection as well as the coach of the team was Saskatoon born Brad McCrimmon.
Words simply can't express the shock and devastation.

A terrible, terrible story!
Condolences to everyone who knew Brad and there were many. Saskatchewan hockey has definitely had a very bad summer.

I didn't know about this until I saw it here. I am literally speechless. I have a Pavel Demitra jersey from his days with the Blues.

Brad McCrimmon is from Dodsland/Plenty. I wish Regina and Saskatoon would stop claiming everyone from Sask as their own
A buddy and I were sitting around one night, years ago drinking some beers, discussing the fact that with all the travel Pro teams do, that something like this might happen.
Can you imagine, poof, a NHL or MLB team goes down in a crash like this and are gone????
Wow.....
Actually, I think that I read somewhere that this happened to the Riders back in the 50's.
Callous, cold and really uncalled for is all I can say to the person complaining about where Brad was from. No wonder you won't identify yourself because you are too stupid to do so. What I do know is "Saskatchewan" has lost another great hockey person wayyyy too early.

What a terrible tragedy. I hope something like this NEVER EVER happens to a CFL, NFL, NHL, MLB or NBA team.
Dave King apparently told McCrimmon that life is good in Russia with the exception of the flights that scared him to death.
Those saying this is the darkest day in hockey are correct.
he said Brad was born in saskatoon. Which might just be the case. I don't think I remember many hospitals around plenty dodsland area. Maybe Rosetown had one back in the day, but I don't think so.
RIP Brad and the team. what a terrible summer.
My dad always talks about the rider plan going down and how it affected the whole province. I can't imagine what that town in Russia is feeling.
