CFL POTW - Week 14

Henry Burris, Adam Bighill, Trent Guy and Jon Cornish were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for Week 14, the Canadian Football League announced today.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Hamilton QB Henry Burris is the Offensive Player of the Week, following his near-perfect outing against the Montreal Alouettes on Friday. Burris completed 88 per cent of his passes for 326 yards and five touchdowns, leading the Ticats to a 41-28 win over the Als.

It was the first time Burris threw five touchdown passes in a game since the 2008 season when he tossed five scores against the Blue Bombers.

For the second consecutive week, the league's top defensive player is BC Lions middle linebacker Adam Bighill. The 24-year-old was a dominant force during the Lions' 27-21 loss to the Roughriders on Saturday night, registering a BC franchise record 13 tackles.

Bighill currently leads the Lions, and is second in the league, with 77 tackles.

Also repeating on the weekly honours is Alouettes kick returner Trent Guy, who earns his second Special Teams Player of the Week award of the season. Guy registered 125 yards on six kick return and added another 65 yards on four punt returns in Montrel's loss to the Ticats.

Finally, the Canadian Player of the Week is Stampeders running back Jon Cornish. The New Westminster, BC native ran for 180 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries, leading the Stamps to a 39-15 win over the Eskimos. In the second quarter, Cornish took a direct snap 73 yards to the endzone, surpassing the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the first time in his career.

He also became just the eighth Canadian to achieve the said feat.

Some consolation that the Riders win as a team and not because of individuals.

How many Riders have won a POTW award this year? Not very many...
