The Regina Thunder are pleased to announce they will
play host to the NCAA Division III’s all-time most victorious football team,
St. John’s University, in the inaugural Wireless Age CanAm Football Exchange,
which will include two controlled scrimmages on Saturday May 18th.
The Johnnies are etched in history with a .705 winning
percentage (583-237-24 record) in 102 seasons. Their recently retired head
coach, John Gagliardi, is no stranger to the record books as he is a 2006 College
Football Hall of Fame Inductee and all-time leader in college football with a
record of 489-138-11 in 64 seasons. The NCAA permits teams to take part in
International trips such as this, once every three years.
In addition to hitting the field in the Queen City
with the Thunder, SJU will take part in a Legacy Tour around Regina with an
excursion through Wascana Park, a tour of the RCMP barracks and museum and
conclude with a stop at Mosaic Stadium to observe part of the Senior Bowl
practice which will feature Saskatchewan‘s high school football all-stars.
A full schedule of events and details on opportunities
for the public to get involved will be released in the near future.
The Regina Thunder have established a volunteer
committee to help plan and host the Johnnies to ensure it is a first class
experience for all involved.
