CFL POTW - Week 11 (Two Bombers)
Chad Kackert, Jason Vega, Demond Washington and Jon Cornish were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for Week 11, the Canadian Football League announced today.
The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
Argos running back Chad Kackert is the Offensive Player of the Week, following his breakout performance in Toronto’s win over Hamilton. Kackert registered a career-high 172 rushing yards and three touchdowns, leading the Boatmen to their sixth win of the season, as well as the lead in the East Division.
The second-year Argo also contributed through the air, hauling in six receptions for 67 yards.
The Defensive Player of the Week is Winnipeg defensive end Jason Vega. Vega was a force for the Bombers during the Banjo Bowl, registering six tackles and a career-best three sacks in a heartbreaking loss to the Roughriders on Sunday.
Vega wasn’t the only Bomber honoured for their Week 11 performance, as kick returner Demond Washington was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Washington registered a combined 145 yards on returns, highlighted by an 82-yard punt return for a touchdown to give the Bombers their first touchdown since Week 9.
The major was Washington’s second return for a score this season.
For the fifth time this season, Calgary running back Jon Cornish is the Canadian Player of the Week. Cornish ran for a career-best 185 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries in Calgary’s 20-18 win over the Eskimos on Friday night.
