Saskatchewan Roughrider receiver Weston Dressler has been named the CFL’s Gibson’s Finest Special Teams Player of the Week.
Dressler returned a second quarter punt 66 yards for a touchdown during Saturday’s game versus Montreal. It was the Riders first punt return touchdown since Jason Armstead took one to the end zone versus Edmonton on July 20, 2007. The fifth-year Rider also added four receptions for 28 yards and a touchdown against the Alouettes.
Currently the CFL’s leading receiver with 92 receptions for 1,189 yards and 12 touchdowns, Dressler has also fielded 20 punts for 229 return yards and one score on the season.
This is the third time this season that a Rider has picked up a weekly award after Darian Durant was named CFL Offensive Player of the Week to open the 2012 regular season and Sandro DeAngelis was named CFL Special Teams Player of the Week following week 15.
Other winners were Jamel Richardson (offensive), Jon Cornish (Canadian) and Keon Raymond (defensive)

So now we've had 3 POTW all year. Two on Craig Dickensen's Special Teams and one on Bob Dyce's offence. Hmmmm, none on Richie Hall's defence, I wonder why.
Why do the Riders not yet have a player of the week award for defense? I don't know, eastern bias? Or maybe no because there is no I in team?
If there was a correlation between POTW and how well a defense plays, then I guess the Riders defense (425 points against) is worse than Winnipeg's (2 defensive POTW, 492 PA) and Hamilton's (1 defensive POTW, 515 PA).
I could also assume that since Winnipeg has 8 POTW this year and Hamilton has 9, compared to 3 for the Riders and 3 for Toronto, then the Bombers and the Tiger Cats must be having much better seasons than the Riders and the Argos.
Perhaps it is sometimes easier to get a defensive POTW on a team with a poor defense, as that allows more opportunities for an individual to get more tackles.
Am I satisfied with our defense? No. Does Richie Hall need to do a better job? Yes. But I'll trust Chamblin to make correct assessments and then to make the right decisions about all the coordinators after the year is over.
