I hope this is a weekend that the University and its womens basketball team remembers for a long, long time. The CIS national championships are going on at the CKHS and by all accounts, there won't be a seat to be had for the final on Sunday. Its a final that obviously I'm hoping to see the Cougars in. Safe to say there will be a little excitement pumping through the veins when I introduce the home team to the crowd tonite. It will be nice to add the wrinkle of "Canada West champions" as well.
If the Cougars should win it on Sunday night, someone open up the front doors because a huge monkey will be climbing off the shoulders of head coach Dave Taylor and making its way elsewhere. If anyone deserves this title, its Dave. He has been to this dance many times before and have come up short. No one was more disappointed than him to see the team lose in the first round to Calgary and it would be sweet justice to see Taylor get a trophy that has eluded him for so long after getting a conference banner that has eluded him and his team for so long. Many talented players have come through that team and the one constant is Taylor. Credit Dave for finding the girls that he thought could come in and be impact players. Here's hoping and he and many others that represent the U of R will be smiling on Sunday night.

I railed on the staff at Riffel High School last week for not allowing Grade 12 students to do the Harlem Shake and then taking the SRC presidency away from one of them because he sent an e-mail to John Gormley. I still think the staff should be embarassed for their actions, but good on Gormley. If you don't know, he invited the kids down to his studio and they did the Harlem Shake right there. I believe if you look carefully at the video, you can even see the scholarly Gormley getting involved. I applaud that move whole-heartedly.

Its not often I get exclusive pictures, but I have one taken just before the new Pope was selected.
As I said on Facebook, how cool would it have been for him to come out to "bring em out, bring em out, bring em out"!!
Tweet of the week may go to the Regina Rams. Moments after he was introduced, the Rams tweeted that Hey Vatican you're late to the party, Pope Francis has been running our program for the past 29 years.

Check the NHL scoring stats and you will find two Regina kids in the top 10---Chris Kunitz and Ryan Getzlaf. Add Jordan Eberle to that mix and there has to be some happy faces in Regina minor hockey these days.

This piece on Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider is pure gold. Check it out!

The talk of John Chick coming back to the CFL and perhaps the Riders is nice, but if I'm Chick I am exploring every option south of the border. The guy can play. We know that and the $$$$ are much better too.
---
Will the Riders have to come ask fans to shovel the snow out of Mosaic Stadium in time for their home opener? The way this winter is going, would it surprise you? I've had enough. UNCLE!!! YOU WIN!!!! ENOUGH!!!!
----
The Kootenay Ice have made the playoffs every year since going to Cranbrook. That's impressive.
----
I have no problems with Percy Harvin becoming a Seahawk. I think he will make that offence a little more explosive.
-----
Jack Swagger's music is outstanding! If I didn't have the "Football Night in America" theme song going when on "Sportscage", I'd be asking for that one. I may have to use that when serving as host.
---
The stars of "High Impact Wrestling" go at it again Saturday night at the Victoria Club. Alas, my duties at the CIS Womens basketball tournament means I can't go. All I have to say is may Thrillin Dylan stomp a mudhole in old Tex, I mean Rex Roberts.

That's all I got. Hope to see a lot of you at the University this weekend. GO COUGARS!!

Good Luck U of R Lady Cougars basketball team.
Hope the Cougars can pull it off!
How many times have the Pats been in the playoffs over the last 15 years? That's reason enough right there as to why Regina hockey fans are disgusted. Nice job Parker!
Kevin
That pope picture still has me laughing. Well done Scruffy!
Nicely put Kevin. Parker you have made a mockery of a once proud winning organization.
Good job John Gormley !
