Brent Sutter Back In Charge In Red Deer

Brent Sutter, Owner/President of the Red Deer Rebels Hockey Club, announced today that he will take over the General Manager duties for the team. The coaching staff will remain the same, Jesse Wallin as Head Coach and Bryce Thoma as Assistant Coach.

Brent Sutter was the Red Deer Rebels General Manager/Head Coach of the Rebels from 1999-2007 before leaving to coach in the National Hockey League with the New Jersey Devils (2007-09) and the Calgary Flames (2009-12).

Jesse Wallin played four seasons with the Red Deer Rebels from 1994-98. After a professional hockey career, Wallin joined the coaching staff in 2005 as an assistant. He took over the head coaching job in 2008, and held the dual role of Vice President of Hockey Operations/Head Coach from 2009-2011 and General Manager/Head Coach in 2011-12.

Brent Sutter - “After an evaluation of our hockey operations department throughout the summer, it became evident to me that we needed a separate general manager and head coach. Jesse Wallin will continue to be our head coach. After going through this portion of the evaluation, there were two options: Bring in someone from outside the organization to be the general manager, or I do it myself. With the familiarity I have with the coaching staff, scouting staff, players, and all other personnel inside hockey operations, I made the decision that I was the right person to take over this position at this point in time.”

Sounds like the reviews of the Regina Pats in recent years. Brent Parker would say that after careful review and reflection that he was the best man for the job. Very funny!
