WHL Training Camps Opening Up Soon
The 2012-13 Western Hockey League season is approaching as many WHL Clubs officially open training camps this week.
Beginning Wednesday, August 22nd, many Clubs welcome players for registration, while on-ice sessions for 10 Clubs begin on Thursday, August 23rd. By the weekend, almost all WHL Clubs will be putting players through paces on the ice in preparation for the 2012-13 WHL Regular Season, which begins on Thursday, September 20th, with the 2012 WHL Champion Edmonton Oil Kings playing host to the 2011 WHL Champion Kootenay Ice in the stand-alone WHL season opening game, LIVE on Shaw at 7pm.
The 2012 WHL Pre-Season begins on Tuesday, August 28th, with the Moose Jaw Warriors hosting the Swift Current Broncos in an All-Rookie game, and continues through Sunday, September 16th.
The 2011 WHL pre-season schedule again features four pre-season tournaments. The Everett Silvertips Pre-season Classic runs August 31 – September 2 and will feature all five U.S. Division Clubs, the host Everett Silvertips, Portland Winterhawks, Seattle Thunderbirds, Spokane Chiefs and Tri-City Americans. The Edmonton Oil Kings 6th Annual Pre-Season tournament begins Saturday, September 1 and features six WHL Clubs including the host Oil Kings, Calgary Hitmen, Medicine Hat Tigers, Prince George Cougars, Red Deer Rebels and Swift Current Broncos. The games will be played out of the Servus Credit Union Place in St. Albert, AB. The Tri-City Americans Pre-Season Tournament will again feature all five U.S. Division Clubs; the host Americans, Everett Silvertips, Portland Winterhawks, Seattle Thunderbirds and the Spokane Chiefs. The tournament will also include the Kootenay Ice with games starting on September 6. The Thunder Challenge Tournament hosted by the community of Crowsnest, Alberta, runs September 14 - 16 and features the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Kootenay Ice and Calgary Hitmen.
